Eczema on face and eyelids what products do you use?

Firstly I am not asking for any medical advice about this I just want some suggestions for cosmetic products if possible.

I have eczema, normally it isnt too bad but this past two days it has flared up severely on my eyelids and cheeks making my eyes sore as hell.

Now I have a night out planned for Friday so am wondering if there are any beauty products like serum or olay lotions or face masks that you find really help to add moisture to your skin and get rid of the rough dry appearance. I don't wear foundation so that isn't a problem but I dont want my concealer to have a cracked mottled rough appearance if i can help it.

Any tips gratefully received.

xx

Anything on the eye area is a doctor jobbie- She wouldn't even let me use my regular eczema cream.

My advice would be to avoid wearing makeup until you get this flare up under control. I know how tempting it is to slap some sort of concealer on top, but if your skin is cracked (not just dry) then you run the risk of getting infection in there, and then your eczema is going to be more difficult to get rid of. Speaking from bitter experience here!

Until you can see a doctor and get some advice about creams to apply (if it's on your face, you need to get a doctor, because the skin is so thin there normally anyway), I would just moisturise. If you have a prescribed moisturiser like Epaderm or Diprobase handy, I'd use that. If you're out, I'd use Vaseline - the stuff that comes in the pot rather than the wee tin. It'll feel much lighter on your face than the other stuff.

If your skin is just dry, rather than cracked, then I would apply some sort of moisturiser (the free eucerin face cream samples from the freebies board are actually quite good for this!) then a light foundation (try Clinique) on top.

Moisturiser and foundation will be your best bet. Powder will only make your skin look worse than it is, so if you have problem with shine, I suggest cleansing your t zone (try Neutrogena) before applying your makeup and carrying blotting paper sheets (can't remember any brands off the top of my head, but you should have no problems at Boots or Superdrug) in your handbag.

If your lips are fine, it might be an idea wearing a bold shade of lipstick or gloss to draw attention away from your eyes. If you can't put on eyeshadow etc, using a bold lipstick will still make you feel like you've 'got your face on' and keep you feeling girlie.

Hope you have a great night out!

I bought bio oil before xmas and started using it on my face. After applying I wouldn't wash my hands but instead rub the remains into my hands.
I noticed after a week or so that the eczema that I get between my fingers from the cold weather has gone.

I am not sure if it will do the job for you but it's worked for me.
One thing though - you're not meant to apply it to broken skin.

  • I use oilatum cream on eczema around my nose, it's pretty gentle, so i reckon it would be ok under eyes, you only need a small amount though. HTH

cheers guys, i put some paraffin based stuff i got from doctors a wee while a go on all of my face (looks like lard :( ) am hoping it sorts things out, and takes it down a notch and also praying it doesnt cause loads of spots.

Its my upper eye lid (just under the eyebrow) where the skin is cracked my actual eyelid is just dry and red. I'm going to assess how I am tomorrow night before I go out although will prob just stick to mascara and a tiny bit of eyeliner underneath.

  • It's a bit late to help now but for future nights out you could try Lachrilube (over the counter at the chemists). It's an eye lubricant that mainly contains vaseline and lanolin, so avoid if allergic to that.

It costs about £4 for a small tube, but you only need a tiny bit.
