How to turn a demijohn into a cloche
Just found this whilst googling, may give it a go.
I wonder what the bottom of the demi will be like though, how sharp it will be.

Why not use a plasic one?
You can buy them full of cheap water from a supermarket and you wont have all the dangers of trying to cut thick glass with boiling water..
Besides.... Glass demis are getting hard to find and mine like to be full of wine..“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

I use them for winemaking too, but I got some off freecycle and although you can clean them I always find you get one that looks a bit too filthy to be cleaned properly.0 -
I have cut the bottom off a glass demijohn but a different way. You soak some string in lighter fuel then tie a couple of turns round the base of the demijohn then set fire to it. Best to wear safety goggles and run fast at this point! (My kids were watching their mad mother through the shed window....) After the fire has gone out you tap the demijohn gently with a piece of wood and the bottom will (should) fall off.
It does work but my nerves gave out at this point and I only ever did one. It's easier just to use plastic bottles, or get friendly with the delivery guy for your local water cooler bottle run. These huge water bottles they use in cooler fountains get discarded when damaged and they make fabulous cloches.Val.0 -
You are all MAD....
Why not just point a shotgun down the neck and shoot the bottom off?
Or fill it with fizzy pop and hammer the bung in then sit on it!!!
Or, or,, dinamite...“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0
