Without being, or appearing to be, rude, why didn't you take someone with you that 'knows' about cars?

You're complaining about comparitivly minor issues, from what it seems & as mentioned, it IS a budget priced car!!

This is one of the reasons I'm never happy selling at this price range!

Even what you think is an OK, trade in & then sold on, will come back with some sort of problem!!

The noise you are complaining about, sounds like alternetor or power steering belts, as mentioned above.

Not a major problem to adjust, either DIY, or if you REALLY want the garage to do it, they probably would, cheerfully!!

    Gritted teeth, but cheerfully!!

Mate to be honest, what do you expect for £500?
The term sold as seen means you have examined the vehicle, are aware of the faults and have decided to buy in full knowledge of them. The only protection is how the seller discribed the car, ie, in good condition for age, reasonable condition etc etc:money:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • I see where you are coming from but at the end of the day surely these things should be checked before a car is put on the forecourt? Why advertise a 40 point check carried out on all used cars, then not carry this out?

Iam taking the car back tommorrow anyhow as i'm not happy with it to be honest. You may think this is extreme but Iam a consumer at the end of the day so I'm within my rights to be treated fairly.

If you bought it form a dealer then there is no such thing as 'sold as seen' - even if you both agreed to such a term and the conditions were put up in huge neon lights!!

The dealer cannot contract out of the Sale of Goods Act 1979. There is an implied warranty in the act that the dealer has good title to sell the goods, that the goods should be free from minor defects, be fit for the purpose intended, and has various other implied terms.
  • not being rude, but if everyone expected a perfect car for 500 no dealer would ever sell them as it would be too much hastle

it does sound like a loose belt. i would get under it and tighten it up myself.
what will you do when the short warranty runs out ?
old cars have a tendancy to go wrong, you need to keep on top of them to make sure things dont go wrong (well as much as possible, they always will regardless).

personally i would feel a bit embarresed at returning a £500 car for minor things like this.

Yes, but you are a reasonable person? How can anyone who doesn't understand cars think that a 500 note motor would be viable??

it makes you realise why so many older cars are now scrapped rather than sold on these days.
i remember you could find garages selling plenty of cars in banger territory.
i was surprized however to see my local evans halshaw having a range called "runabouts" all cars under £991. surely more hassle to do this than just send to auction with no comback?
