Morning everyone, I got five library books on starting your own business yesterday, so I read the first few chapters of one of those in bed last night. I've just negotiated (sp?) a £500 loan from my dad as my current account is looking pretty bleak. I don't mind living on next to nothing, but I need money to get it off the ground properly, plus I will give him £300 of it back when I get my tax refunded, and in the unlikely event that he needs it before I've made my first £200 which I'll also give him (he has thousands of his redundancy money sitting in his account), he can have it from my ISA. It's just that I was reluctant to take it from there as I didn't want to lose the allowence and feel like I'm going backwards a bit.
Now I need to plan how best to spend it. Only 10p's on scratchcards again, I hope you all have a nice day.
Oh, I also looked at opening a business bank account with Abbey as it's free for life if you stay within certain limits, but they credit check you so I'm a bit terrified especially as I have a £2000 overdraft with them. Morning.
Nicki this all sounds really exciting, best of luck with it, you're braver than me!
Off to do clicks and try and read some reviews.0 -
10p's for me as well :-(
Wow Nicki you are going for it girl!!! What are you thinking of doing? your own shop? website ? or selling through other shops? your stuff is lovely ,you'll have no problem selling it i wouldnt have thought.
I need to make one more necklace by the end of the day to fill up my display case to take to the wedding shop (kinda like a briefcase that opens up into 3)
morning yukki :-)0 -
Thanks you two
.
I plan to start a new website, I used to have a big cartel one which was quite good but I closed it when I decided to go down the job route instead. I think I'm going to change the design slightly. I'm also going to set up a new etsy store and actually list stuff often, rather than the half arsed attempt I've made with the one I've got.
I'm going to look into the evil ebay to see if it is viable to sell on there again or not. I do hate it and its stupid policies, but because the items I'm going to be selling will be more expensive and cost very little to make, there might be enouh margin to make it worth it, and ebay did always bring me the bulk of my sales when I had it. Plus I think there is a market for vintagey stuff on there like there was one for the kitsch stuff I used to sell.
In the long run I'd like a shop (there was a tiny little one in Brighton that I SO wanted, but it was for sale not rent), but if I can summon up enough courage I might approach some shops about selling it. I'd also like to do craft fairs and maybe have a stall somewhere if I could find a place. They have a small craft market in Horsham on Saturday's (the town on from me, very middle class, and the second best place to live in Britain allegedly), so I think it might sell well if there was some way I could get a stall there but not sure how to go about it, and I don't think there is a spare one going anyway.
Wow, bit of an essay there! I hope you manage to make your necklace mm.

Is the craft fair in a market? if so they usually have offices where you go to see the management. Or pop along and have a natter to a stallholder and find out from them (probably best not to speak to someone selling jewellery lol!)
i'm so pleased for you-you are really going for it!
I'm half way through my necklace but the electric fires gone boobs up, cant be bothered to light the woodburner and my hands are too cold to work!!
Gonna have a cuppa and try again0 -
I hate having cold hands when trying to do something, it's frustrating. Good luck with that MM0

It isn't in a market as such, I found this on it though http://www.horsham.gov.uk/your_area/News/news_6763.asp . I went to the site on the contact email but it's for a shop that closed over a year ago (and is still showing their old address) so I'm not sure I'd get very far contacting it. I'll have to try and go there one Friday and hope someone is forthcoming with some information lol. I'd like to have a stall just so I'm not stuck at home all the time, if my boyfriend does move to London I'd love to get a stall on Portobello market
.
My heater is broken too, it works for a while then cuts out and will start again when it feels like it. The walls in this room were insulated a few years ago as it used to be a semi-internal shed type thing, but it still has three external walls so it gets pretty cold. Finally bought a homeStarting mortgage £289,500 31.01.19 - Current outstanding £192,586.98/CENTER]Overpayments since 27.03.19: £52,407.470 -
Thanks Yukki! I'm going to have to light the fire I think- i hate doing that it's so messy.
Good luck Nicki-portobello market would be cool though!0 -
