Accessing trustee nominee account abbey

Hi there - hope this is the right board...

My son's godfather opened an Abbey account for him in the 1990's, as a Trustee, and put a bit of money away each month for him. He's now 20 years old, and at uni, so wants to access the money. Gd/f is lovely, but across the other side of the country, and not great at following up promises to look into this for him! I have a feeling a letter needs to be written, so I thought I'd get on the case today, write it and email it to my son's godfather, hoping that if all he has to do is print it and sign it, it'll happen! However, Abbey are, of course, closed, so I was wondering if anyone here knows the kind of wording which needs to be used? If there's another way around this, I'd appreciate any advice!!

Cheers for help/hints
