How to increase milk supply?

All babies are different, with different metabolisms. 3oz in a week is great going! You aren't failing him; he's just different. If you can express 4oz in one go, it sounds like your supply is fine
Many babies drop from their birth percentiles; it's really no indication of future size. Baby has gone from being drip-fed 24hours a day by a placenta to feeding on their own terms; stands to reason that things may change. My daughter was born on the 50th, dropped below the 9th and eventually evened out to the 25th.I like you. I shall kill you last.0 -
Just a little message of support!
You've had some great advice here. Put the formula out of mind. I know you've got other children, but take every opportunity to relax, take every short-cut you can, accept every offer of help and turn a blind eye to as much as possible round the house. Look after yourself. Believe you're giving your baby the best start.
Its 20 years since I breastfed my last baby and it makes me all silly and emotional just thinking about it now!0 -
Baby's putting on fine - stop worrying. You rmiddle child is the anomaly putting on so much weight. If you want to buy 'mother's milk tea' that is said to help boost supply but the best thing to boost it is baby feeding0

Good Luck-- it makes me sd to see people being undermined and confidence shaken at a time when you are feeling vunerable. I breastfed all 3 of mine for 9 momths and the best advice I had from my dad who was a GP was every time I sat down to breastfeed was to take a jugof liquid -- any water, milk, horlicks. a glass of stout !! (strongly recommended for the iron ) and to make sure I drank loads. I also used to put a safety pin on the bra strap I finished feeding on so I knew where I was with boobs especially in the early days.
Good Luck .Listen to your baby if he is happy, content and settled HE ISTry and do a good deed every day.0 -

Hi there
Theres been some great advice in this thread and I just wanted to add that I agree with the other posters, if baby is having wet and dirty nappies and seems content please dont worry.
Theres far too much emphasis these days on what baby weighs and how many ounces he or she drinks.
My fourth child is now 11 weeks and hes not been weighed once since the midwife left at 5 days.He lost almost 10% of his birth weight but is otherwise fine and dandy.
Ive been asked by the HV to have him taken to the clinic to be weighed, as I was asked with my others but I refuse.
Unless im worrying about his general health or feeding then he wont be being weighed, dont get me wrong im not suggesting babies shouldnt be weighed if the parents choose to or if theres a worry but this whole obsession with weight is unnecessary and only leads to sleepless nights for parents and feelings that youre doing something wrong.
#4 is breastfed, hes never had a bottle and yes I have no idea whatsoever what he weighs or how many ounces he takes but he looks healthy, fills nappies and sleeps "like a baby" so who really cares what the scales say?
Take care and try not to worry about it, Im sure baby would let you know if he/she wasnt getting enough

Yes - but as a side effect it can increase milk production. A friend was prescribed it when her new born was in SCBU - she had to express for weeks.

You take care of yourself
worry is the worst thing cos the world and his wife will try and make new mums worry about something.
a lovely doctor said to me when i got upset with all the conflicting advice after i had dd (we got readmitted cos she had jaundice and i had an infection) 'I tell you what to do with conflicting advice - ignore all of it'
i also decided to ignore anyone who was negative about breastfeeding
it IS hard work but so very rewarding too - mind you not so sure about the half hour just spent unblocking a milk duct (OUCH:eek:) :rotfl:
And remember breastfeeding is very moneysaving!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!
