Mixing Rechargeable Batteries?

I have quite a few Rechargeable Batteries.

I have been able to mix 1500mAh with 2500mAh AA's without much problem in my camera but when the camera tells me to change the batteries I usually find only one of the four batteries is discharged and the others still have a full charge.

Idealy I suppose I should use the same brand and same power rating but is that true and what is the best way to use rechargeables?

Have Uniross replaced their Hybrio rechargeables with a new product? I have found the Hybrio's better than any other rechargeables but they don't seem to be available now.

mAh stands for milliamp-hours, so if your device draws 500mA, a 1500mAh battery would (in theory) last 3 hours, a 2500mAh battery 5 hours.
Therefore, I would guess that the lower rated batteries are the ones you are finding run out first. I use matched sets of batteries as it is easier to keep track of which are charged up.

    You can get Hybrios here:

Ideally you shouldn't mix any type of cell, Zinc-carbon, Alkaline, Nickel-cadmium etc or ones of the same type with different power ratings (mAh)
Mixing cells could possibly lead to reverse polarity of one of the cells which may in turn cause them to vent (leak) their contents (acid) into your camera.
As you say, if possible use cells of the same make type and capacity (mAh) s and charge them all fully before use.

I used to find with my old point and shoot olympus camera that even if I replaced all four batteries with brand new ones, the same one would always discharge first - and these would be 4 brand new Duracell.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Yes and most people would just throw the other three away thinking they were spent. The battery level meter I got a couple of years ago is great for telling which one is spent.
