Nice account for childrens pocket money?

Hi

Sorry if I am going over old ground here. I would like to open bank accounts for my children to put their pocket money in, its not a huge amount of money, probably about a fiver a week, but would like them to learn about finances etc they are 10 & 6. I remember being proud as a child when I had a bank account and going in to may in my PM and then withdrawing it when I had saved enough was a great feeling! I was wondering if anyone knows, who is offering the best accounts with gifts if possible? (you know like the Nat West used to do the pig thing)

Thanks x

  • I'll declare an interest up front but I like the Co-op Bonus Saver Account. It pays OK interest rates(3.75-4.25%), has the freebee money box & gives internet access, pay-in via post office & branch & a cash card to withdraw cash at the post office/ATMs. Also annual bonuses of £2 per annum under 13s & £10 per annum 13s & over if you keep £50 min in the account.

But what I like is the contribution the Co-op make to charities for each account opened plus ongoing bumpf / website updates which involve the kids in how their money is being loaned out to support ethical causes
