advice please

i'm confused after reading the stickys so asking for some advice please

i have had bullguard for free for a few months but now they want me to pay £50 to have it for a year, to protect my computer.
so i have taken it off the computer and after reading the stickys i have installed ad-aware.

one person has recommended spybot but the link given just gives more options and i don't know which to choose:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html
Which of these is good?

I have windows vista. i have the windows firewall installed.

should i install anything else or is ad-aware, windows firewall, and maybe spybot when i can figure out which one; is that enough?

    get some antivirus!

    Agreed
I use the free version of AVG anti-virus
  • ah....perhaps there are better choices than AVG...maybe, sticking with the As' Avira and Avast are preferred choices

I'd definitely go with Avira, unless you need email scanning, in which case use Avast. AVG isn't very good.

It doesn't matter, any of them should work just fine.

You might also consider installing Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware. If you install the latter, disable the option to run it on startup in its preferences.

Sound advice from Marty above. Make sure you run a FULL scan with malwarebytes as a precaution.
