Can they do this?

Hi, first time on here and need some advice!

I put an offer on a house on the 9th December. It was accepted on the 16th and we are getting our valuation etc next week.

My partner was searching for a house on the same road and our house came up. At the bottom of the page it said "7 days notice. We have received an offer of .... and we are giving 7 days for offers". It is now more than 7 days since we made the offer but it appears the notice has only just gone up on there.

Fair enough give 7 days (although I've never seen this on any websites before) but are they allowed to say how much we offered?

Sounds like your buying a repo, you should have been told of the seven day notice and they are allowed to say how much has been offered. Not all lenders require a seven day notice, the majority do. The seven day notice is usually put in the local paper, but some lenders are accepting adverts on sites like Rightmove during the Chritmas period, if there isn't a property paper for a few weeks.

It sounds like it's probably a repo - they are required to tout a property even after an offer has been accepted just in case somebody offers more.

Your offer had to be passed onto the people actually handling the sale. If they were off for a couple of days and the EA was off a couple of other days and then there was Xmas then they probably played a bit of phone/email tag. What with holidays and suchlike I expect you can discount a number of days over the past fortnight where the vendor had not received the offer. Why not give them a call after the new year and ask for a progress update.
