Well.................
No need to say 'I TOLD YOU SO' methinks
FULL scan with Malwarebytes as Tom suggested.
I think id also be inclined to put on PCTOOLS FIREWALL with the included THREATFIRE program
http://www.download.com/PC-Tools-Firewall-Plus-Free-Edition/3000-10435_4-10625321.html
PC TOOLS will automatically know a lot of 'known' programs and allow them through. Any it doesnt it will ASK if it can access the net (Therefore HIS alarm bells should be ringing should he do anymore dodgy downloading)
THREATFIRE will also scan on the fly (Make his computer a little slower maybe, but id much rather that than a complete mess of his hardrive)
Also, 'pron' springs to mind here (ive never EVER yet known a young teen lad who HASNT used his computer to surf for pron!)
So download FIREFOX
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
and the NOSCRIPT plugin
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
NOSCRIPT will auto block nasties coming through the web (the 2nd easiest way to get infected, ESPECIALLY when browsing for 'naughty'things)
So for webpages to work hell need to UNLOCK them (Bottom right icon)
If he unlocks ANY pron ones, he does do at his own risk.....
Heres a list of addons (FLASH etc)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:7
Make sure you IMMUNISE with SPYBOT (It will read ZERO unprotected when its done right). This stops a lot of nasties at the source
Also. Im not entirely convinced I believe him. Look for any NEW programs that appear (Almost certainly be a new icon on the desktop) over time
Thanks, got all that, I will probably have a good go at it over the weekend.

If he has downloaded any mp3 or films, you could get the details, then copy them into one of those you have downloaded illegal software and we will sue letters, changing all the detail relevant to yourselves.
Print it out, blame him and act furious and rant and with a bit of luck that should stop the illegal downloads for some time too (until he learns how to mask his ip):D
Where can I find one of those (we will sue letters) from I think it may be a good idea to put the wind up my son as I am fed up with telling him about downloading from Limewire.0 -
After a quick google. All a bit Americanised and more aimed at the ISP but a quick bit of editing will sort it out.VIA EMAIL

Sir or Madam:
I am contacting you on behalf of the Recording Industry Association of America, Inc. (RIAA) and its member music companies. The RIAA is a trade association whose member companies create, manufacture, and distribute approximately ninety (90) percent of all legitimate music sold in the United States.
We believe a user on your network is offering an infringing sound recording for download through a peer to peer application. We have attached below the details of the infringing activity.
We have a good faith belief that this activity is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law. We are asking for your immediate assistance in stopping this illegal activity. Specifically, we respectfully request that you remove or disable access to the unauthorized music.
We believe it is in everyone's interest for music consumers to be better educated about the copyright law and ways to legally enjoy music online. The major record companies have actively licensed their music to dozens of innovative services where fans can go to listen to and/or purchase their favorite songs. A list of many of these services is available at https://www.musicunited.org.
It should be made clear by this letter that downloading and distributing copyrighted songs via peer to peer networks is not an anonymous activity. Not only is distributing copyrighted works on a peer to peer network a public activity visible by other users on that network, an historic 2005 U.S. Supreme Court decision affirmed the unmistakable unlawfulness of uploading and downloading copyrighted works. The website https://www.musicunited.org contains valuable information about what is legal and what is not when it comes to copying music. In addition to taking steps to notify the network user at issue about the illegal nature of his/her activity, we strongly encourage you to refer him/her to this helpful site.
Please bear in mind that this letter serves as an official notice to you that this network user may be liable for the illegal activity occurring on your network. This letter does not constitute a waiver of our members' rights to recover or claim relief for damages incurred by this illegal activity, nor does it waive the right to bring legal action against the user at issue for engaging in music theft. We assert that the information in this notice is accurate, based upon the data available to us. Under penalty of perjury, we submit that the RIAA is authorized to act on behalf of its member companies in matters involving the infringement of their sound recordings, including enforcing their copyrights and common law rights on the Internet.
Thank you in advance for your prompt assistance in this matter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at XXXXXX@riaa.com, via telephone at *Phone Number*, or via mail at RIAA, 1025 F Street, NW, 10th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20004. Please reference *Case ID* in any response or communication regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
RIAA

Where can I find one of those (we will sue letters) from I think it may be a good idea to put the wind up my son as I am fed up with telling him about downloading from Limewire.
I met someone last year who had been fined over £2k for downloading stuff.
She and her sister both used Limewire very heavily.
Her parents were not best pleased to say the least.0 -
Thats light, the norm is £3k a song upto £30k0

Speak of cash back offers, here is a way to reduce your child's pocket money AND stop them downloading AND inflict mental cruelty all at the same time - three for the price of one:p
You may have to modify it a little though and make sure you use the same font type and style - or retype it.
Don't all thank me at once!:D

Well, I have run the malwarebytes scan and the results are as follows
The scan completed successfully. No malicious items were detected click 'main menu'
There we go then, Antivir did its stuff before he actually messed up his lappy. At least I think that it did.
I have left the malwarebytes program on his lappy but if you want me to uninstall it I will.
He certainly wont want to mess up his new lappy anytime soon and he is now not an administrator on the lappy. He just has a user account and he is quite happy with that. (for the time being)
Cheers guys (generic 'guys' there) A big thanks to everyone, especially the usual suspects, aliEnRIK, Browntoa, thomas01155,
