The VW Fox

Options
I am very close to buying a new VW Fox. The thing thats is annoying me mainly is the cost of the road tax at £120, not £35 that i was hoping from a new car. Anyway, having looked at loads of the other new cars that are available at the moment, the Fox suits my needs best, its really spacious inside and has a really good boot size. All the other cars in this price range have a boot that you couldnt even fit a sneeze into!!!!! I quite liked the look of the Hyanudi I10, but my main concerns with that are the local dealer is a real sleeze, urgh! And was trying to rip me off big style, but the car seems good, although has a small boot, but does have road tax at £35 a year. should i just get over it and buy the fox, a car that i happy with even though its going to cost me more to tax?? Or should i go to the next nearest Hyuadi dealership thats 30 miles away and see what they want to offer me?
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

  • I'm looking at similar cars for my GF at the moment...

If it was me i'd call the dealer further away, say you've been to your local dealer and you've been given a price of X but what car magazine suggests more room for movement with regards to the price; what can he do to make you 30 mile drive worth the trip?? Play them off of each other...

Take a look at this link - particularly at 'TARGET PRICE'

Does anyone else have any pointers for us both???
  • I would just like to say that I LOVE my fox, bought it new 2 years ago and it fab. The thing that swung it for me is, as hellokitty says, the size of the car boot... HUGE (brill for the shopping!! Cant really say much else as Im no good with cars - just know what i like!!

Yes. Don't buy new cars. Save yourselves lots of money in depreciation.
Then you won't have to worry so much about how much VED will cost
you, as it is an insignificant amount by comparison.

If anyone is contemplating buying a new car, there is a useful website here where CO2 emissions (which links to road tax payable) and fuel costs are compared by car make and model

    polo bluemotion instead?
Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?
  • Get the VW - parts for one are reasonable and cost you alot more on the Hyundai. Plus it sounds nicer - tho confess to not knowing what a fox looks like, apart from the ones I get in the garden. :D

£120 is not alot in the scheme of things, my focus is alot more a year - but its auto and they give out more emissions........

Talking of which... I went out and got frozen today. Can we all buy vehicles with huge engines please? This global warming lark isn't working, I'm so bl**dy cold!

tell me about it! im sitting inside with a scarf on. Used value of the car is little interest to me, as i intend to keep it for a long time.

I know the emissions and stuff, its just the one thing that i am a little reserved about and i did sort of think that the parts where expensive on a hyaundi, as my ex had one.

Its basically the same size as a polo, but i think if i am correct 3 cm shorter or something and like 2k cheaper! Plus what car only gives the polo thwo stars and the fox three!

You obviously like it, and VW's are good and economical. Its not as if you are after something really impractical! I think that tax is reasonable! Go for it.

Guess I better go and join the party..........

    New Year... hmmm

If you want new try all the brokers on Martin's list. Brokers4Cars was the best for the Fox but that was Jan 07. I tried dealers but they wouldn't take any off. With the credit crunch it may be different. With B4C you deal entirely with a main VW dealer and it was treated as a fleet deal hence the large, at the time, discount. Mine was VW Leicester. They even delivered for free and I took the driver to the nearest station as it was such a good deal. Their invoice even showed the amount they paid to B4C. I bought because the ride was so much better than the C1/Yaris etc which was like riding on a board, the suspension/seats were so hard. However, I drive to work via bumpy C roads. You get a very high and adjustable seat height which is good for people with a bad back. I only get 42 mpg for the 1.2 which I suspect is typical, ie not the advertised figures. The back is only for 2 not 3. Two years later I am happy with mine.

The i10 is one of the few cars at the moment where demand outstrips supply. It's had good reviews in the motoring press coupled with demand from all ages. Youngsters and pensioners alike are attracted by the VFM, warranty and quality for the price. This is why few brokers are discounting it and that vast majority are being sold at list price.
