Maybe you hal.dll has gone missing go to My computer>C Drive>Windows>system32 and see if you can find hal.dll in there. If its not in there you can re download it here http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?hal and place it in there.0

Make sure to install all the updates for vista
1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button then clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
2. In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
3. If any updates are found, click Install updates. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Did you install this http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/
If you did remove it from start up see here: http://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/msconfig_vista.html0 -

I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid.

Thomas thanks for your help. I did a system restore to 2 days ago and rebooted. So far no message.0 -
a bit of both, I don't remember it enough to quote, plus you'd already been given the solution, so all should be well.
Plus..how can any fan of Kubrick and/or Clarke let a thread with HAL in the title go by?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
