How worried should I be?

Hello,

I am posting this because I am so worried now that I cannot sleep, stop biting my nails or beating myself up.

I left my job in October with a £7K payout because I was being bullied, I had spots all over my body, couldn't sleep, was working to live. I relocated and have a guaranteed rental scheme from Northwood (mortgage £647, they will be paying me £390 a month).

I went for 7 interviews (going for accountancy jobs) and in the end got a short term job (for 6 months), however I have been for interviews since I started, even got to second interview stage and still didn't get it.

I am so worried now, I didn't enjoy xmas day at all, I don't know what to do and I'm worried that I only have enough money to pay my bills for the next 9 months. I've calculated that from April onwards my monthly bills will cost me £800, and if I save £4400 over the next 4 lots of pay, I can keep going for that 6 months, taking jobseekers allowance into account.

I'm so worried that I can't get a job though in 3 months time. I seem to be coming second best constantly - the feedback is apparently that my experience is good, and that I interview really well, but I don't have enough exeprience! I have a good scientific degree and 8 years management experience with a large company.

I think I am here just looking for any advice - my brain is working overtime trying to find a path forwards and I can't seem to. Am I worrying too much?

    Hi

Can I suggest that you post an SOA here, so we can see the xtent of the problem?

You may want to post now and the worst case scenario for 6 months time?

http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html , format it for MSe and post up.

You really need to look at your soa and adjust it to include everythig, presents, food etc.
With the surplus you are showing on this one you could be debt free in approx 18months.
Get yourself registered with agencies and keep ringing them or popping into them telling them you will do anything. Do not be fussy, you can't afford to be.
  • Maybe I can get a job as a temp through one of the agencies for people with little experience to tide myself over. A far cry from my project management/IT/accountancy background but at least I won't be watching Jeremy Kyle every day and going bankrupt.

I have my fingers mentally crossed.
  • You need to do something. I have highlighted some bits in blue on the soa. Please try and answer them even to yourself.
I'm guessing that you have split the £7000 to give you a monthly wage of £2150. Or is that coming from somewhere else

    Hi,

i haven't included food (I don't plan to eat, god knows about that one). I transferred the TV licence to my dad's address and he is paying it now.

The £30 phone includes tv and broadband from Virgin. I can't get out of the £32 package for mobile as I just took an upgrade for 18 months 2 months ago (flaming Orange).

I am going to make a huge list of agencies tomorrow. Come Monday I am applying for everything and adding my present job to my cv this weekend. I will pester the hell out of the agencies.

That's the annoying thing, if I was still going to be doing this job (or any job paying a similar amount) I would be debt free really quickly. I plan each month when I get paid with the remaining £1133 to save about £1050 and to use the remaining £80 for food and be very careful planning my meals.

At least that should give me about £4200 + about £200 petrol I'd budgeted for = £4400 to tide me over. If I get a job I can clear one of those £5K cards almost.

    Frustrating times!

Thanks for your advice and your time :o

No, the £7000 was a payment when I left that I used for removal costs and clearing debts and paying bills. My monthly pay is about £2150.

  • Hi Pink Twirl,

All I can say is keep going for jobs and something will come up. I lost my job in Sept, and was really starting to panic about money running out in March (all savings would be gone). I was looking at jobs with massive reductions on my previous earnings, just to pay the bills, and got rejected from those as over-qualified (that's damned annoying to hear too).

I had given up hope before Xmas, and then got a phone call from an agency. Ten days and two interviews later, I was offered a job on almost the same salary I used to be on, and I start on Jan 5.

It will come. Just keep looking.

    Good luck x
