I've got windows 98se and I have adobe 6.1.1.
I have had an email from someone that has an attachment but when I try to download the attachment Adobe starts up but a message comes up saying 'the plug in PaperMetaData.api failed to initialise'.
Does anyone know why this is happening and what I can do to make it work so that I can download the attachment?

Hi,
The only thing I can find is this: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/330649.html which mentions 6.0.1.0 -
Johnrp - that has worked in getting rid of the papermeta problem. But I'm now getting another message which says:"There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found."
Any ideas what this means and how I can resolve this? Cheers.0 -
Don't know. How are you opening the document? As it's as email attachment, have you tried saving the attachment first then opening that?0

Saving the attachment and then opening it has worked! I'm surprised this made any difference. Well done.0

Sometimes integration with IE causes problems as that uses activex, you can turn that off in acrobat reader, edit preferences , look for "display pdf in browser" and remove the tick.
Or, download the latest version..

Number 7 is the latest veesion.
Do what albertross said - get the latest one! It's definately the best choice!0 -
I have Win XP and Adobe reader 7.0.5.
Since upgrading from Reader 6, I have had many problems with Adobe reader.
MS have responded to the many error reports by saying they are aware of this and 'in discussion' with Adobe.
This conflict may not apply to Win 98, I am unable to say.0
