Can we claim Credit Card PPI?

Hi
Really sorry if this has come up before and I've searched with no luck.
Anyway, some time ago I had a Virgin credit card and paid around £50 per month on PPI. About a year later I was made redundant and tried to get in touch with Virgin so that I could make use of the PPI. Anyway, to cut a very long story short, they made it impossible for me to claim. I had forked out that £50 per month for MONTHS and all for nothing. Now I want it back. Can I claim?
