Natwest to Abbey transfer payment gone missing!

Options
I called into my local branch back on 17th November to make a payment over the counter to the Abbey bank with payment slip, the money left my bank account that day but never reached the Abbey, it has been missing now for 7 weeks! where is my cash gone ! i have made several phone calls and trips to and fro to try and trace the money and feel as though i have had no help. 29th December i received a letter from my bank saying it would be easier if i contact (yet again) the abbey bank to trace it as it would take Nat West 6 - 8 weeks - i find the whole experience very poorly handled and still have not found my money as it will take the abbey bank up to another 2 weeks to trace all this time the interest is building on my credit card and have not even had an offer of a gratia payment to cover my interest building up is this just another case of the big boys get richer of the nations hard earned cash or poor staffing! all the same I'm still down in my pocket!..any advice appreciated

If Natwest can prove the payment left them and was presented to the Abbey it would be better approaching the Abbey as the Natwest are just playing piggy in the middle and you have an extra link in the chain which is slowing things down.

It sounds like the problem is at Abbey's end.

Can you get a copy of the payment slip? I'd suggest you ask the Natwest to confirm the exact details they presented to the Abbey & the date. At least with that information the Abbey should be able to trace the payment from that day.

It sounds like possibly acct number or other information presented to the Abbey is incorrect. It's possible the Abbey have sent this payment back to the Natwest and the Natwest have done nothing with it.

I reckon approaching the Abbey is your best port of call.

I may be able to answer this one. The Abbey will have a report of all payments that they have been unable to allocate. Based on the date that your payment was made, they will be able to tell you if your payment was on the report and when it was returned to the NatWest.

If your payment does not feature on the Abbey's "unallocated" report, then the chances are that figures have been transposed and your cash has ended up as someone else's Christmas bonus..... In this case it will have to be tracked by the NatWest, and this will take 6-8 weeks.

Hope this helps. I can see why they are asking you to contact Abbey first, as if they've bounced the payment back, the NatWest will find it easier to locate your payment if they know what date it was sent back to them.

I have been in touch with the Abbey on work related matters, and it usually takes them about 10 minutes max to find an unallocated payment and tell me when it was returned to us.

I've been told this by an Abbey Manager (very close ;) )

Natwest are responsible for the trace, as they are the ones who transferred the money - they can tell where it is, even if it's in an Abbey Account.

Either Bank telling you it'll take them that long, is rubbish - a payment trace will take between 24 - 48 hours!

Which Abbey Branch are you dealing with please?

    Can you elaborate?

Natwest will only have access to the information that the Abbey give them!
