This is new to me. Have a wedding footage on a camcorder. Transferred the movie onto a DVD using a DVD recorder. Normally that is enough for me but the family wants some scenes removed and some nice effects put in etc. I have a Pinnacle Studio 8 software for editing movies. Unfortunately the movie clips on the DVD is in VOB format and the Pinnacle software does not recognise this format. It will recognise AVI, mpg or mp2 format. Unfortunately the footage on camcorder has been erased.
I think i need to convert the footage to AVI format. Can anyone recommend a free program that i can use? Or better still does anyone know how to get around this on pinnacle software.
I only plan to use this software once so cannot justify buying a new software.
Thanks in advance

This is a handy site, not only links to various software freeware and demo's, but also gives you walkthroughs detailing each step and thesoftware used

Try changing the file from xxx.vob to xxx.mpg or xxx.mpeg and then see if it is recognised by Pinnacle..
Vob files are identical to mpg files except that they can contain other things (simplistic explanation).
If it works, great.
If it doesn’t, then just change it back to .vob and you haven’t lost anything
You should make a back up of the original before you start editing it.0 -
http://media-convert.com will let you convert all manner of different media files online without having to download and install any software. I have converted vob files with it before, but not sure what I converted to. Worth a look though I would've thought.
