HELP - Round the world

Me and my fiance are in the discussion stages of planning a trip around the world for our honeymoon. We are thinking of taking 3 months unpaid leave from work and would like to travel. I wondered if there are people out there that could help us? To be honest I don't even know where to start! I'm not too fussed about travelling Europe as we can do that any time. The main places I would like to visit are New York, Rio d Janeiro, Thailand, Vietnam, India and China. We will not have a great deal of money so we will be doing it on a tight budget, although I don't really want to stay in any complete dives.
If anybody could help to point us in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.
Many thanks.

You can do Vietnam. Thailand and India on the cheap. If you do Vietnam I can recommend Cambodia too. Bangkok's a good hub and try and visit Chaing Mai for the trekking.0

If you want an 'organised' trek - where all the inbetween bits like flights and visa are arranged for you then try the compnay called Real Gap. They do all sorts of trips for various budgets and have a very good reputation.

One of my friends and former colleagues works for Intrepid Travel in NZ. I'm not saying that you should buy one of their trips, but I would defintely recommend that you sign up to their newsletter because it's stacked with information and inspiration.

And another former colleague now works for this company who's website, again, is stacked with inspiration..

Pesonally, please don't miss out a couple of days in Fiji. The people are warm and friendly and they adore us Brits.0 -
Agree with the advice on Fiji, and if you do then try Raratonga. Amazing. ANZ do them both.0

If you search in these forums for round the world or RTW some more trheads should come up.
STA travel are quite good, big airlines like the Star Alliance members also do airfair tickets to go you around, as does BA with its partners.I beep for Robins - Beep Beep

Thanks guys. Has anybody had any experience of travelling? If so, has anybody got any tips? Or places that are a must see?0

My advice, dont plan too much, take each day as it comes and be open to change.
Must see places, i think SEA is a good jumping in point, its a great place to start as it is so travel friendly and you will encounter many others doing the same. For some that is a bad thing, but as a first timer, its invaluable.
I personally found Fiji a little expensive for what it was and only stayed 4 days, i did however spend 6 weeks on the cooks and loved them. What is one mans idea of horror is another mans gem so you will always get mixed opinions on places.
Try looking on STA, they have a section that allows you to plan routes to see what is possible and what cost it is likely to be, i would have a play around with that and get a rough idea then contact some agents to see what they come up with price wise.
Lonelyplanet thorntree is a good place to look for ideas or to ask questions. The people can be tetchy at times if the same questions get asked over and over, so make sure you search the site for answers to your questions first.
Last piece of advice, i would not try to cram to much into your time. Give yourself time to enjoy where you are going and not just fly in and fly out again.0 -
Infact looking at your options and the fact you are wanting to do it on a budget, i would knock New York and Rio on the head for this trip. You are adding so much money to the price of a ticket by putting South America on any round the world, you are also covering lots of miles to get to them. Save them for another trip and you have got a good little route, that is very doable left in the rest of your choices.0
