I spoke to a very helpful man at Ravenheat today. After listening to my story, he asked me to test something for him. I popped home at lunch and switched the heating on and turned the hot tap on. the boiler has 2x 22mm pipes one CH flow the other CH return. He said that if the CH flow pipe got hot with the heating on and the HW running the diveror value is faulty, as it's job is to stop water flowing into the CH system once a HW tap is on. This makes sense to me as a man with no idea.
How about you guys?

One other thing I've experienced is air in the primary side of the heat exchanger. Try bleeding it.Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
Hi, I have had to go one step further than you, and replace my boiler due to my plumber being on speed dial!!!!!!
When i was getting quotes in i was constantly told that the pipping leading from my gas meter to my boiler is 15mm copper but it should be 25mm to allow more gas into the boiler to heat the water quicker. My parent had the same problem and had theres replaced and they can now have pipping hot water within 5 seconds anywhere in the house. My new boiler is being fitted on monday!!!! and my pipping upgraded to 25mm at the same time!!0 -
Afternoon,
I had a second engineer round this morning, who said he was convinced it was the divertor valve. He said he would install it and if it didn't work would put the old one back and not charge me for the new valve.
Low and behold, it worked. I now have piping hot water at a decent flow rate.
He commented that the system was very dirty and that will cause the boiler to work harder than it needs to. Therefore not helping it's lifespan.
For the future his recommended replacement would be Valliant Ecotec 831.
Just to say thank you for everyones advise.
cheers

What I'd like to know is ..
...how's he managed to fit the part without disturbing any of the other pipework not to cause the joints to leak  your boiler is 10 years old
Everytime I go near my boiler the bloomin thing leaks, when I fix one leak I disturb something else and that leaks  I make a point of redoing all the joints when I fit a part now.
glad your fixed up :j

Make sure you keep this guy's number, worth his weight in gold, he didn't stitch you up and had parts on board and was willing to trial and error it for you.
He also made a good recommendation for a future replacement.0
