IB medical advice

  • you shoudl ask this on the benefit place coz i didnt think this is going to get you good answers here, just a load of opinions from people who think they know it all.

I would think it would be better for jimjams mommy to ask the question here, it's not about the benefit, it's about dealing with the situation. There are many people on here that have been through this and may be able to help.

    To Jimjams Mommy..
I had my IB medical before xmas, I do not have mental issues apart from slight depression. I found it very stressful and was very worried, so I understand how jimjams mommy must be feeling. The Dr I saw was ok, I just answered his questions fully and explained how my disability effects me on a day to day basis. About 2 weeks later I got a letter saying that I was unfit to work and would be reviewed in 2011.

It was not as bad as I thought it would be, so try not to worry to much. Try and have someone with you that can support you.

I wish you all the best
  • I was ment to have my appointment in the morning. I called them on monday and asked for a home visit was told no as I have provided I could leave the house.

I explained I can leave the house it just the medical interview and the worry is effecting my mental health. I said my cpn advised me to ask for a home visit. I was then told I had to get a letter from my gp explaining why I need a home visit, not my cpn. I had to send the request before my interview date.

I was told I had to call the free phone number to cancel my appointment as they couldn't on the number I had called ( they had given me the office number to check that they had my file before I attend my interview )

The best bit....... I asked them could they check if they had my notes.... as last time I was sent home when I got there as they had "not lost them but they didn't have them"
she called me back.. we haven't got your file we will cancell your appointment for friday and send you a new date in the post, and we will except a letter from your cpn to support yout request for a home visit.

laugh? I could have cried but the woman on the phone was so sweet and I can't say it was her fault but my cpn is off sick so the supporting letter may take a while. I got a new date for a interview for mid feb, fingers crossed will have a home visit.
  • A quick update, I haven't got my letter from my cpn as she was unable to get through the snow and is now off sick ( the letter was in support of a home visit ). My appointment we ment to take place in the morning 10.02.09.
I called them today to check if they had my file ( due to them not having it before and the interview is unable to take place without the file and I was sent home )
I was told that if they had my file they wouldn't call me back but if they did they hadn't. I wait till about four and I called them to check, as I was stressing about it, I was told they hadn't got my file and the appoint is to be cancelled and a new now is to be sent. So fingers crossed my cpn will be back to write the letter.

    FAO: jimjams mommy & Jamla

The time frame they are stating is ridiculous, in fairness, even if they are their usual slow and incompetent selves, I don't think it will take that long. The fact that they have said that to you though means that there is no real urgency on their part or understanding of your circumstances.........they are more than happy to fob you off.

If you are up to it and don't feel that you will be over exerting yourselves, and are happy to take steps for them to be more specific about when you will get a decision, I'd like to suggest a couple of things.

First of all, go to your MP and ask for a firm and clear letter requesting a more specific, and ideally, quicker decision date from them, written on official "parliament headed" paper.

That should get them going or at the very least, they should reply stating where their at with the decision making process.

The second option is to go to a local Solicitors that specialise in Welfare Benefits and ask them to do the same thing for you. It shouldn't cost you anything as you will be entitled to Legal Aid.

You can go on the following website to find a local Solicitors and click on Welfare Benefits for the "Area of Law" box:

    http://www.lawsociety.org.uk/choosingandusing/findasolicitor.law?=lshome

But remember, whether you decide to take these steps or wait, do not stress or get worked up, stay calm and relax. Either way, I think everything will work out in your favor in the end, regardless of whether the process is delayed or speeded up. No point you feeling bad or allowing it to overly affect you in the meantime.

PS: I may have jumped the gun a bit with jimjams mommy, as you may still be waiting for a Medical Examination. If this is the case, you can still explore these options for Attending a Medial Examination and ensuring they have got your file, or getting a home visit.

    Take Care

    All the best!
