My Sky has started freezing every time I try watching UK TV Gold. It only seems to happen on this one channel - no comments about my viewing habits please!
Should I be changing to Sky+ before it all goes wrong?

Ours did the same thing and Sky sent out a subcontracted engineer who replaced the LNB which solved the problem . However , a week later it went again and when another engineer came out he told us that it was a common problem with older dishes and promptly put up a new one - FREE OF CHARGE ! - no problems since and that was almost 6 months ago .
Give Sky a `phone and explain the problem and they`ll sort it , if they try and extort £65 engineers charge simply tell them to CANCEL your contract as you are currently paying for a service you cannot receive properly . They will almost certainly then offer a 1/2 price call and when you refuse send the guy out for free . If the worst happens and they do actualy actually cancell then simply sign back on as a new customer in 30 days time and get all the gear replaced FREE OF CHARGE !I`m now officially too old to die young0 -
Many thanks for your time and effort in replying - there is always someone in this forum who can help with any problem I have found.
When I get the patience to hang on to Sky's waiting message I will give them a ring0 -

Will this work if your box/dish are out of their guarentee?0 -
catowen ,
Our system was 8 years old so well out of guarantee and we ended up with a new dish fitted FREE OF CHARGE . Whilst the engineer was there I asked him , nicely , if he could put on a 4 way LNB so kids could watch sky in their bedrooms and he also did this without any quibble .
The thing to remember is that when you telephone Sky originally they will try to charge you £65 call out charge . Simply refuse this and ask to cancel your contract as , obviously , you are paying for a service you cannot receive properly . Thay will then offer a half price call out but if you stick to your guns and say that you want to cancel as you are not receiving the service you are paying for then they WILL send an engineer free of charge .
The engineer who came to us the 2nd time was an actul Sky engineer and he told us this was a common problem and the only way to solve it properly was to fit a new dish so if the guy who comes out offers a new LNB ask him if you can have a new dish - if he refuses he`ll simply end up coming back in a few weeks as a new LNB will not fix it
Give them a call and try itI`m now officially too old to die young0 -
I would echo hairybuilders advice. I've had this problem before and have had the box/dish/LNB/and cables changed.
I've had engineers out 4 times now (in the last 3 or 4 years) from Sky and never paid the £65 callout charge. Follow the advice given above (sound convincing about wanting to cancel) and they will eventually waive the charge and send the engineer for nothing.
Also.............Don't use the 0870 number to call Sky. Use the latest freephone number to contact them (let them pay for the call).......0800 731 6965 (option 2, then option 0 I think). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I had to laugh following a recent call I made to them using the 0800 number as it was quite a lengthy call and the guy had to put me on hold a couple of times, to discuss with his supervisor about giving me a free move, and he kept apologising for running up my phone bill :rotfl:
I never told him I'd dialled 0800 of course:whistle:

I had a situation a while ago when I had to phone them. After sorting out my issue. The lady on the phone started chatting about the days news. I was under the distinct impression that she was trying to lengthen the call (I had just claimed another free visit from them). I chatted to here for quite a while about the days news without telling her that I was using the free number. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

I had this Sky freezing problem last spring. When the engineere came in, Imagine what was the problem?
It was the Tree's leaves. When they fixed the dish it was winter and there was no leaves in the tree. Then during spring I started to have this problem. I phoned sky. When the engineer did his check he found that the receiver and the dish were OK. He moved the dish to somewhere else and the problem was solved. It was the tree blocking the signal from reaching the dish.0
