I haven't done any for months...which is really silly but have been busy studying and eBaying. Did well on the first but room to improve on the second :rotfl:
Going to start MBing again next week.Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060 -
Same with me.. Hopefully 2010 will be better.
I get so excited when I start with something but the initial excitement wears off soon
2010 is going to be a different year altogether :rolleyes:0 -
That's exactly me, MQ so have decided to start the year not very excited and then hopefully the excitement will grow on me and I shall actually get things achieved.

What a terrible day I have had!!
Didn't have any hot water/ heating in the morning because the boiler broke. Checked the manual for the error code and it was the b????y condensate discharge pipe that had frozen and hence the boiler wouldn't fire up.
Did try to thaw it with Heat Wrap/ Hot water bottle and Hair Dryer  to no avail
Got through to the breakdown service after 3 hours and finally they came to fix it. The engineer removed the pipe that was going to the outer wall and now it is discharging inside the house in a tub.
Heating is running at full blast now and the engineer has asked us not to switch it off at all for the next few days because it is -10 degrees outside atm and the internal pipes under the floor boards or in the attic may burst if the water freezes in them at night.
Waste pipe for the kitchen outside the house is also frozen so we can't run the sink/ WM/ DW atm
Don't know how to thaw it as it is outside the house (probably underground)
Someone at work mentioned adding hot water + salt + anti freeze down it. Will give that a go tomorrow
I am totally fed up with this weather.. Bring on Spring

I have done an OP of £238.94 today. Just because I was bored and didn't know what else to do with my time. I know I am sad:rolleyes:
Mortgage Balance: £94999.16
Also opened Halifax Reward Current Accounts for I and DH. Halifax will pay £5 each month we pay in £1000. Will be opening a joint one also soon so that's nice £180 each year.
Don't see any good saving rates atm and quite a lot of Regular/ Fixed saving accounts are maturing this month, so I was decided to open 6 Lloyds Vantage Accounts (net 3.2% AER). They allow a max of 3 each customer.
And as it is a current account, I can move my money if any new deal comes up :money:
Still need to find some good regular savers. Only good one I have found till now is the Chorley BS (4% net). I don't like postal accounts though
Also have been transferring any pennies I have in old saving accounts to my current account to keep everything together. Have logged some many times in the Halifax Website that they have temporarily suspended my online access
We got some more fresh snow today
DH has put grit salt in front of the garage so hopefully we will be able to take the car out tomorrow
Kitchen drain is still blocked. DH couldn't go out to buy anti freeze. Have to sort that tomorrow as the DW is full now.
Hope everyone is keeping warm. Heating is on 24 hours now

Ahh now I was looking at Regular Savers until 5am this morning. The Principality Building Society is 4.5% although it's a postal account I believe you pay in by Standing Order so in fact you are more or less managing it online. I also searched for tiny building societies and found the Stroud and Swindon is paying 4.5% but the downside is you can only put £250 a month in. I was also considering the Barclays account which pays 4.25.0

ChirpChirp,
I already have an account with Principality at 5% AER. So need to phone them to check if I can open another one as my previous one is a different issue.
Will check the Stroud & Swindon Building Society and Barclays. Thanks :A
Norwich & Peterborough Building Society Family Regular Saver Account is 5% but only if you have kids
Chorley BS only allows £150 per month.
Why is life so complicated :mad:0 -
Have checked the Chorley BS Santa Savings account and I think will have to give it a miss. They either require original identity documents (which I am not sending by post with all the delays / issues with Royal Mail atm) or copies of identity documents certified by a Solicitor/ Police Officer or a Bank Manager. :mad:0

Awww bad news about the boiler that
Well done on the OP :T Good Luck with the challenges in your signature

Thanks SMF2
The boiler has been working okay since the engineer sorted it.. The Kitchen drain has not thawed yet. Makes me think it's probably just not snow thats blocking it.
DH will buy a drain snake tomorrow. Hopefully thats would sort it. Otherwise will have to call a plumber
2 of our Regular Saving accounts with Abbey have matured.
Have deposited the cheques into the current account
Also had a one year fixed rate bond with ICICI matured this week. Have requested for that to be transferred to my current account.
Total interest gained £409
Quite a few bonds/ monthly savers will be maturing later this month so have opened 4 vantage accounts with LLoyds (2 each). The guy there was giving us funny looks when I said that we want to open 4 vantage accounts.
Have also opened 2 reward current accounts with Halifax. Have to open another joint one for us now.
DH has been asked to do some overtime for the next couple of months. His job is pretty stressful so he is unsure about whether he should do it.
Had £9000 at 2.24% with Halifax. Have requested for that to be moved to Lloyds Vantage Accounts so it can earn 3.2% interest.
Sometimes I think, it's just so simple to overpay into mortgage rather than all this. But then this would be more rewarding in the long run :money:
Right - enough for today
Take care everyone and stay warm
