Where im i likely to get the best deal on a laptop during the jan sales? getting about 700 quid to spend on a centrino laptop, I know from past experience not to use PC-World and Dell seem a bit expencive at the minute.

Any Ideas?

Why wait until the january sales? you will often find that laptops don't usually come much cheaper in sales at any time of year.

Don't rule out those new mobile Celerons as they are Centinos with half the cache and no automatic speed stepping and performance difference isn't huge.

i Have just bought this laptop from pcworld £630 and its brill works like a dream played vice city on the tv with its built in tv out, ive burned dvds useds its built in wireless for internet. the processer is really fast and i would very much recomend this for you.

nah wouldnt touch PCWorlds Pc/Notebooks with a 10 mile barge pole. Not after the customer service i got from them last time.

I upgrade my laptop through my business every year and always spend some time researching the Best Buy's within my price band first. There are a number of magazines with pretty good online review sections.

I then spend a bit more time researching the best deal on the one or two that come out top. Going by 'on-paper' specs isn't necessarily the best way to proceed. One system with the same basic spec can differ significantly from another.

Usability, durability and screen quality are also difficult to judge on spec alone ... and these are key selection criteria for many people who use their laptops on the road as desktop substututes.

Acer tend to offer a good price/performance compromise. My last two have been a Toshiba and a Sony. Both excellent with good resale value, unlike the cheap as chips brands!
