Defense+ is a powerful HIPS application it will alert you when ever something legit or malware tries to do something which isnt on the policy list. I would put it in training mode for the first few days then swap it to safemode. When you install a new application put Defense+ to treat application as installer/update. You can also access the administrator account by tapping Ctrl+Alt+Delete twice at the login screen and put administratior in the login box and the password in the password box saves you booting in safemode everytime.

Hmm, just bobbed back on the laptop to check all is well and whilst surfing, noticed several pop-ups. Not CID ones. Any suggestions?

Do a quick scan with malwarebytes make sure to UPDATE it first. You sure there not coming from the websites you visiting?
Did you leave defense+ on? Open the Comodo interface go to defense+ then advanced then computer security policy and see if there's anything you don't recognize in there. You will only have a list if you left defense+ on.

I'll do a quick malware bytes scan now. Don't think they're coming from the sites I personally have visited. Literally just a few hotel sites and major holiday tour operator ones. Can't speak for what my daughter went on earlier mind, although facebook will have been one of them for sure - that and Bebo...

I have left the defence+ on and there is a list like you say, but to be honest I'm not sure what's what!

ok, the malwarebytes scan took ages last night but showed no problems. avira flashed up a trojan, which I told it to delete. this morning i've had a few CID and other pop-ups so it's still not right. Here is the hijack this log..
