Just as a thought have you tried to eliminate at least one possibility
    1. Configure the memory back to it's original state to allow windows to load.
    2. After startup go to Start>Run>Type msconfig>ok.
    3. At the system configuration utility window go to the tab named BOOT.INI and select the advanced options. A dialog box appears and there will be a number of boxes. Uncheck the MAXMEM box or amend the MAXMEM value as necessary..
It probably won't be your problem but at least you have eliminated one possibility.
