  • That's it Cazziebo I was pretty calm and only started to get all these symptoms about 10 minutes in after having injection.

For minor surgery we are talking about a teeny tiny subdermal dose. Hospital referrals are made where complications are suspected.

Im aware of that thank you, I work with anaesthetics all day every day. Im just pointing out that locals arent 100% problem free as many people believe (regardless of amount and environment) and can cause problems - whether they be physiological or psychological. And that what the OP experienced was quite normal in that situation - whether it was the local causing the near faint or just being in that situation, which is what the OP wanted to know.

Dental anaesthetics do contain adrenaline, and if you have a bit of a funny turn after having one, it's worth asking for an adrenaline free one (which every dentist will have) to see if it makes a difference.

Medical ones don't usually contain adrenaline.

It isn't possible to faint whilst lying down, but it's still possible to feel like you're going to faint.

Fainting has nothing to do with 'what sort of person' you are. Some people are pretty prone to it, but it is something that can happen to anyone at some time or other - that's why I related my experience. I've seen all sorts of proceedures, and done one or two, but that day in the operating theatre, it happened to me. I wouldn't look for something to pin it on - it just happened.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Well today I said to my OH that my dressing needed changing. So he proceeded to remove it and guess what? I started to get all those symptoms I had back at the GP surgery and this time there was no anaesthetic. :o I almost fainted and just couldn't believe I would react like that, lol. I didn't get the tingly hands but had the rest of it. So it looks like it was a panic attack of sorts. :o

Can I ask if anyone has tried the plasters that help reduce scarring? They seem rather pricey and I didn't want to waste money if they don't work. Thanks!

Today I had the stitches taken out. (Had four of them.) I was really surprised how quickly the nurse removed them as I was getting prepared to focus on my breathing so as not to faint again. Before I had chance to start my breathing she'd taken them out (must have taken 5 seconds) lol! Phew am I relieved that's all over. :o
