I was carrying a large box downstairs (I was de-cluttering, huh...should have left well alone!)....anyway, the handles on the box snapped and I lost my balance and kinda slid down the stairs on my bum.
Contents of the box went everywhere and a whole bottle of shower gel exploded all over my hall carpet.
I have a large puddle of gel and loads of dollops and lines of the stuff everywhere.
How do I get it out the carpet? When Itry to wipe it, it just goes sudsy. Does anyone know of a way to stop it foaming even more?
I know you can get specialised defoamer for carpet cleaning machines .....but not at this time of night.
Any tips please?
TIA.

Have you tried scraping it up with a spatula to get the dollops up.
That might help a little. But I have feeling that no matter what you do it is going to go all bubbly.

Liberal applications of water and DAB it up don't RUB. can you not get all the excess of the stairs then just keep rubbing until it sort of goes into the carpet,i cant see it doing it any harm, just make it smell pretty fresh for a few weeks!!
good luckappreciate what you have got x0 -
Lol, I have scraped most of it up and slapped cold water on it, but it's leaving the carpet with white areas.
Is there nothing I can put down on it like salt or something to stop it foaming?

If you have or know anyone who has a wet and dry vacuum, I'd go for that option. Suck up as much of the suds as possible then keep rinsing with cold water and vacuuming until all suds are gone.
Other method is as Squeaky mentioned above but it will take time. The white areas you see is the soap ingredient in the gels. It will all come out, but it will take alot of water and time

I have a Vax, ark.
The suds keep choking the machine though (you're supposed to use defoamer to stop this happening and I don't have any left).
Looks like I will be at it for some time then..............see you all in a couple of weeks. *Sob*Herman - MP for all!0 -
My next door neighdoor ended up making an insurance claim after her daughter dropped a bottle of shower gel down the stairs, she just couldnt get it out.

Keep adding water to thin out your suds, that should help the situation. Mum used to have a vax and never ever used any of the defoamer.
You might manage it if you keep the suds very wet.

Yooo hooo....I'm back.
I was chucking basinfuls of water over the gel and sooking it up quick with the Vax and it wasn't helping so......
......I tried vinegar! I threw a whole bottle of neat Sarsons over it. Seemed like a good idea at the time, you lot always rave over vinegar.
I think it helped dull the suds down a bit......but my carpet stinks now.
I've tried throwing disinfectant over the vinegar but it's just a weird smell now. OH is not overly pleased with me. :rotfl:
Radiator is on full blast and windows are open.
I've still got white bits that wouldn't go though....I might go buy some defoamer tomorrow and go over it again.
ark.....maybe in normal usage your Mum didn't need defoamer...but trust me here, I'm talking suds everywhere.Herman - MP for all!0
