Next - VAT rip-off

Bought some mens undies today. Not in the sale, just normal priced up stock - £16.
Huge poster next to the till - VAT reduction will be deducted at the checkout
Woman scans them through and asks me for the full ticket amount. I point out the poster and she says the reduction has already been done in the stickered price (!). I mention that I bought an identical pack a couple of months ago and it was £16 then too. She wanders over to ask her colleague.. then comes back and says no, the price is correct, £16.
You think it's worth an email to their head office?
It's only 20-odd pence.. but they shouldn't have big posters claiming they're reduced the VAT when they obviously haven't.

When we went there yesterday, there were notices saying that from the 26th December, all prices already reflected the new VAT rate.
Actually, as you say, they appear to be the old prices, but I don't think they will reduce them any more.MSE GBBO 2015 - Go Alvin!0 -
It's probably just an old poster that should have been taken down and replaced with the new one. I wouldn't bother emailing head office as you will just get a standard reply. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

Unbelievable.
All the underwear was still priced up £xx.00 so basically they're keeping the VAT reduction now.
Lets hope they're next for administration then.0 -

What great news for the British Economy. And then I guess you'll be moaning when you are paying 22.5% VAT in 12 months time and also when the BR of Tax goes up again to cover all the additional unemployment benefits for the people who have lost their jobs. Why not just shop at Primark and pay £5 and stop moaning? No-one forced you to pay for the goods you should have placed them on the counter and walked away.
Are people really expecting that the price tickets in shops are not going to change for 13 months? All this fuss over 33p. Honestly.
The new stuff is out, the new tickets will be on the goods, they could have put their prices up £1 and then deducted the VAT - would that have been more acceptable to you?0 -

Please dont say things like that, its nasty and unwarranted for the sake of 20odd pence. Please edit your post because in my book what goes around comes around. You really wouldnt wish thousands of people to lose their jobs because you lost a few pence would you?make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Companies that treat their customers badly are the first to go under. Maybe people agree that pretending to be a good retailer by dropping VAT for 3 weeks and then craftily bumping it back up again so you don't have to reprice your stock.. isn't exactly treating your customers well.
I don't want to see people on the dole. But everyone is saying that 10-15 more retailers are going to the wall in the next month.
As DSG is about to find out.. the way to stay afloat now is not by crapping on your loyal customers.0 -

Well actually I thanked the post because I agreed with the first part of it.
I would certainly never wish the poor staff in Next to be out of a job - or anyone for that matter - and this thread is not about the staff at all but it IS about the fact that Next have clearly NOT passed on the reduction in VAT (as is their right) but are saying that they have, which I for one don't think is treating their customers fairly, and therefore is affecting their staff.
It may be that people are "moaning" about 30p and maybe they would have been right to put the item back, but if everybody does that and shops elsewhere, the staff WILL be out of a job.
So, as I say, it appears to me that Next have decided to keep the extra money themselves, which is disloyal to their customers and must be hard for their staff - all ways round something which MSErs are likely to want to comment on.MSE GBBO 2015 - Go Alvin!0
