Cat sneezing snot - any ideas?

I have an elderly rescue cat, she's lived with me for ten years and is somewhere between 13 and 16.

She is on daily tablets for a thyroid problem but usually only takes 4 a week as she is so difficult!

For a few weeks she has been sneezing, with a snotty nose, and sometimes a little blood in the snot.

We have a vet appointment tomorrow morning but forewarned is forearmed and I wondered if anyone has any ideas how serious it might be?

I know cats don't get colds, and when I described the snot and blood the vet nurse said 'oh dear'

I really don;t want to lose Kizzy but I know they can't live forever either.

Does anyone know what it might be?

She is well in herself but her fur is manky (cos of the thyroid) and all she does is sleep.

It sounds like cat flu. When our cat had it, everyone said he'd die "cos no cat EVER survives flu" :rolleyes: The vet gave him a couple of injections (can't remember what they were now) and some antibiotics and kept him overnight. We had to feed him soft but strong smelling food for a while eg. scambled egg - he'd lost his sense of smell and couldn't chew properly. 10 days of antibiotics (at home) later and he was fine

Sinisitus? Should be cleared up with anti biotics from the vet.

Yes, I have had to change her food as the biscuits were a problem for her so she is on puch food now and that's going down well, although only about one puch a day (she is a small cat).

hopefully then some antibiotics will be what she needs.

I know she has to go some day, but not just yet I hope.

I know, that's why I wanted some info before I go as I'm likely to collapse in tears when I'm there if they say it's bad.

Hope she is ok, I have a old cat who is 19 and recently had a few health problems, they are a worry when they are getting on, Hope its nothing serious.

Does she go out? It could also be something straightforward like a seed or blade of grass stuck between her nose and throat (although more likely in summer). This happened to one of our girls many years ago and she was sneezing green/brown mucus for quite some time but the vet couldn't find out what was wrong. She sneezed one day and the end of a blade of grass shot out and we managed to ease it out, the smell was absolutely atrocious .
After a few days she was back to normal. Hope puss is ok

She doesn;t go further than the doorstep any more, so that's unlikely. flu sounds most plausible.
