I have Spybot but need to know if its working automatically even though it dosnt come up when I start up - thank you

Open up your task manager (Ctrl alt del) and if you find something that looks like it under process. (like S&D or spybot)

Or you can download CCleaner (another useful tool) and it has a tab which tells you which prgrams start on startup

Spybot only auto starts if the TEA TIMER mode is switched on (Which I personally hate)
Under general use its only needed to SCAN when you open it. Also use the IMMUNISE feature which prevents certain attacks

The only part of Spybot which "is working automatically" is TeaTimer.exe - look for that in Task Manager, in the Process tab. The main part of Spybot is the on-demand scan which you initiate yourself.
