Ford locks
Has anyone tried using a key to open any Ford car door?
OH discovered that his key for his Ford opens my car door too and vice versa. Not sure if it de-activates imobilsers though as he only found out by accident and didn't want to buggger anything up.
He has a Mondeo and me a Fiesta.

if its the funny round key they seem to be pretty soft metal (or the lock is soft) friends have found this
The car wont start due to the immobiliser0 -
you can lock them with any ford key but none of mine have unlocked another car of my own
drivers locks don't wear out so much now as most cars have remote lockingremember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice0 -
I don't think the locks or keys have worn as both cars have remote locking so the second key is like new. I've had my car since 11 months old (just had it's 3rd birthday) and OH car is 5 year old and he's had 4 years.

If you look at a modern Ford key, it has 6 different actuating parts (relating to the 6 different levers within the lock barrel). Each actuating part of the key is cut to 4 different depths.
If my maths are correct this maximum number of variations of:
6! x 4! = 17280
It's not therefore surprising that some cars have the same lock/key, but as already mentioned, the car won't start because of the immobiliser. (Using the wrong immobiliser key to try & start the car won't cause any harm - it just won't start)
I doubt any car in mass production has more than 6 lever locks fitted (most household locks are a maximum of 5 levers!), although there may be more depth variations per lever depending on the lock the manufacturer uses."Now to trolling as a concept. .... luckily for me on occasion!
also, when they started putting the newer, more secure locks on the mark 3 essies, we found that if you got a thick wire coathanger, filed the end to a v, and wiggled it a bit, you could get 9 out of 10 open... especially the boot lids....0 -
Even if the car will not start it still means that anything left inside could get nicked.0
