Sales Rip offs

Options
I don't know how far this goes, probably across the board, but I have only been able to notice a sales rip off of one particular Company because I had been studying prices for some time now. I am looking for a fridge freezer and had been comparing prices online. I had almost decided to buy a particular f/f from Dixons as they were offering the best price, when I got notification of their sale, I went to see if this particular f/f had been reduced - in fact the price had gone UP by £20 - and this was their sale price! I was also going to buy other electrical equipment from them, but am now unsure of just how much a 'bargain' I'm going to be getting in their 'sale'.
I don't know what the legal aspect of this practice is, but surely a Company cannot advertize something as a 'sale price' when in fact it is now dearer than it was before? It makes me mistrust all other Companies' sale prices.

The sales don't seem that good to me, just a load of banners in windows.

Sorry, I did not make clear that I was shopping online. When I said 'I went to see if it had been reduced' I meant I had accessed their site online. I have sent off an email of complaint, but have not received a reply. I wondered if anyone else had noticed this sort of thing happening? I suppose it is difficult to know of dodgy pricing in the sales if you don't know what something was previously priced at. Most of the items for sale on Dixon's site, state what the previous price was, but not for the particular f/f I was interested in - which is hardly surprising.

I dont understand your gripe, If the price was acceptable to you why not just buy it?
Whether it is under the guise of a Half-Price Sale... Massive Reductions Available etc, is immaterial.
    Loads of stores do this.
When I worked in retail in a past life we would have a display of tat which wouldn't shift. Add the words SALE to the display and the plebs couldn't get enough of it.
You can add the word Sale to anything you want.
You would get your wrists slapped if you put misleading before and after price though.

LOL! No, I can't actually, only the signs outside the outlets changed! I have bought from Carpet tripe for many years, but this year I decided to buy from a local company and have now had the carpet fitted by them. I didn't know carpet could be thick, soft and springy!! :rotfl: (and well fitted ;-) )

WHAT!!! Pay £20 more this week than I would have done last week? - and in a sale! It goes against the grain, that's why. But it has shown me that sales prices are not to be trusted - and your example just confirms that.

Well surely the point comes down to whether you actually need something or not and whether you consider the price on offer a good one. I thought everyone knew about the dodges these companies employ around sales, and to a degree I think people who go into a frenzy and buy no end of crap just because it has a big read "sale" ticket on it only have themselves to blame.

I don't mean that as an attack on you but rather as a general observation: If the public show these stores that all they have to do is break out the "sale" stickers for us to start honking like trained seals and start buying trash, then can you really blame them for taking advantage of it? Making money is the reason they exist after all.

If the "sale" price had no pre-sale comparator, then I would be suspicious about it being a reduction.

Anything that is for sale could, I suppose, be described as being offered at a sale price.

Currys did the same last week. Added £60 overnight between the 23rd and 24th Dec of a freezer I had seen.
