I had an email from BT today to say that my telephone bill was available on line so I went and had a look. I wasn't totally sure that I understood what was infront of me as it said I had a credit of £198.50 after my most recent bill had been paid.
I decided to give BT a call and dealt with two really helpful individuals. Firstly the lady I spoke explained the bill , it was as I thought and I was in credit. She agreed without any hassle to credit my account with the cash. :j
She then asked if there was anything else they could do and I questioned my broadband charges. About 12 months ago I queried them and asked to go to a cheaper package but was told it would cost me a considerable amount to switch. She put me through to another really helpful chap who suggested a package at £17.99 (I know not the cheapest ever but have been satisfied with BT apart from the cost) and a switch at no cost! he then decided to review my overall direct debit package and reduced it from £60 plus per month to £38 which he thought would cover everything.
About 5 mins on the phone and inspired by Martin I have managed to save quite a bit.
many thanks :money:

Are you on BT Broadband then? So the £17.99 package is Option 1 and you should be aware that it has a 2GB monthly limit.didsburylad wrote:She then asked if there was anything else they could do and I questioned my broadband charges. I had a very pleasurable experience when I called BT to see if I could downgrade from Option 3 (20GB Cap) to Option 2 (6GB).
There was absolutely no argument, no hassle and within three days I was switched.
I thought I would have to haggle a bit. God bless them :j0

You should be able to reduce this a lot more - £38 a month is still a lot. If you move your phone service to the post office - you'll get £50 credited to your account, and £30 cash if you go through quidco.
Then use 1899 for landline calls (3p for however long) - and use Discount Dial (0844 861 64 64) for any mobile calls (1p/min).
You'd have to make approx 900 landline calls per month or 45 hours of mobile calls to break even!

£17.99/month for BB + £11/month for landline = £28.99. That means only £9.01 is left over from the £38/month DD.
That's 300 calls @ 3p each on 1899 or 15 hours of calls to UK mobiles. Still a worthwhile saving though.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Yuo can go for WHOLE bill DD ,either monthly or quarterly .The advantage of this is you only pay what you owe .and if you dont use BT for calls you only pay £28.99 a month .didsburylad wrote:he then decided to review my overall direct debit package and reduced it from £60 plus per month to £380

The post office wont let you use override numbers such as 1899 .cpjackso wrote:You should be able to reduce this a lot more - £38 a month is still a lot. If you move your phone service to the post office - you'll get £50 credited to your account, and £30 cash if you go through quidco.

If you want to use override numbers keep your line rental with BT .0
