Sending receipts for deleted emails.

I have lots of SPAM emails every day, but just delete them as they arrive.
A few weeks ago when deleting one, a message came up saying the sender had requested a receipt when the email was deleted. I had three options – Accept, Ignore, Ignore All. I kept clicking ignore. Then I noticed on the message there was a window to click saying – ‘don’t ask me this again.’ So, in a moment of weakness, I clicked it. Thinking I would just not be asked again. But unfortunately, it seems I have given permission to send receipts without ever asking me again.
I know receipts are being sent – I see a ‘sending’ message in the bottom right hand corner of my mailbox – but can do nothing to stop them.
I have searched through the ‘receipts’ section – this only seems to discuss sending receipts when you receive an email. I am using Vista.
The amount of Spam I am getting is crazy – and now, it seems I am sending myself spam – the majority are from my own email address.
Has anyone any ideas about this subject please? Or should I just change my email address? Many thanks.

If you're using outlook express then open it, click the tools menu, options, select the "receipts" tab and select "never send a receipt", apply and it's done.
As for the spam, make a free web based email address for subscribing to webpage newsletters or handing out to the great unwashed, let it filter the spam for you.
For personal and business type emails, get a new address and ONLY provide it to people you know. Even then they may decide to post it into web pages offering them free ipods but it will cut down on the spam a little."Gold is the money of kings; silver is the money of gentlemen; barter is the money of peasants; but debt is the money of slaves." - Norm Franz0 -
I assume you are using outlook express ?
if so
on main outlook menu, select tools | options on that window you should see a set of tabs - select "receipts"
you should be able to correct your selection there by checking the "never send a read reciept" radio button and OK ing your way out of the screen
actually I'm looking at XP version but should be pretty similar in vista0 -
Thanks for the prompt replies.
I have tried all tactics in the Tools...Options section of Outlook. When I click on Tools, Options, there is no link to receipts. I have to go to 'email options', then Tracking Options to find anything to do with receipts, and then it only mentions sending receipts for received mail.0 -
Can I just clarify, that these receipts are not 'read receipts' - they are receipts sent when an unopened email is deleted. I have never experienced them before - that is why they are causing me so much of a headache. I have searched the Help facility, and there is no reference to receipts for deleted emails.0

don't understand why your not seeing what we are - maybe vista outlook IS that differernt
"and then it only mentions sending receipts for received mail."
I now see from your OP that you say it was a "receipt for deletion of mail"
didn't think outlook supports "reciept for deletion" - not many do - usually just a "read receipt"
Have to wait for a vista user to come along ...0 -
Why not block the sender from the "message" menu?
Highlight email> Message>Block Sender.
You can also "Create Rule from Message" click on it to see the options.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
