We have a large plasma TV with sky+ HD box. We also use wii through this TV a lot and other half loves guitar hero. We dont have a dvd player connected but would probably get some use from one. I basically want better sound for HD films etc and wii. What do I need?
(Just to complicate matters have large amount of meadowhall vouchers to spend so something available from there would be fab although not essential)

You need and AV amp and speakers - basically.
The 5.1 output from the Sky+ box is optical so you need an amp with and optical input, for that.
There are a number of places at meadowhall that will sell you the tight bit of kit.
Argos, Sony Currys etc
This is the sort of thing you need - not a recommendation juts an illustration
