Having trouble with FIFA 09 All-play on Wii

How do you add Mii's to the FIFA 09 All-play Wii game so that 2 or more players can play at the same time (using our own Mii's?).
Currently we can only seem to connect 1 wii-mote, and when we try to synchronise it, we can't seem to do it. We don't have this trouble with Mario Kart, so we know the wii-motes are working ok. Are we doing something wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated!
