Moving house: empty boxes required.

Hi

We're moving house and trying to get empty boxes (free ones, of course). I've rung Waitrose and Tesco and they've said 'we don't keep empty boxes' and are not being very helpful when I've asked them to keep some for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Thanks.

    1. Freecycle
    2. Ask in local small shops - off licences have small but very strong boxes.
    3. Physically go into the supermarkets, ask staff on the floor when they are likely to have boxes and make sure you are physically there to collect them at the time they state. They have to crush them for fire purposes so if you aren't to collect them when they state they will do this.
    4. Ask all friends, acquaintances and family. You will be surprised but someone will have some boxes.
    5. Ask at work.

Finally if you get desperate buy them on ebay or online.

Hi, Supermarkets use a big machine that squashes all boxes and, staff are expected to get rid of boxes ASAP due to ..... you guessed it Health & Safety. :o

  • Fruit & veg shops usually have loads of boxes.

    Hi

The Freecycle was a good tip. I joined today and got quite a few sturdy boxes and plus one brilliant hanging garment box too.

The supermarkets were less helpful when I went there :(.

Thanks everyone and Happy New Year.

  • Our Lidl's tends to pile them up on the floor as they reload so grab quickly before they squash them.

i went to the back of our tesco's

All the big crisp boxes were in metal cages, not crushed but folded up nicely. Ready for me to use...

Get your self a roll of "duck" tape

    Job done!
  • Ask someone on the shop floor of a supermarket; if you get someone in a good mood they'll get some for you if there are any not crushed :) It might take a few trips to get enough though!
  • We asked Tesco they told us to come back at midnight or 5am they had hundreds then but they do clear them out each day, also look in local post office & local paper we got hundreds that someone was giving away free, left over from their move
