money to Australia

Hi
I need help and don't know if I am posting in the right place. In a month or two we want to give our daughter the money to buy a flight home from Oz for a holiday with us in the UK. She still has a British current account, so we could put the money in that and she can get it out via the internet and pay all the various fees that incurs. However we were wondering if she had a Paypal account, is there a safe, better way of doing it using that?

i think the bank way is fine. it depends which way will incur less charges as if you chaps transfer the money to her oz bank charges will be incurred by you for sending the money and there could be a slight difference in the money sent and the money received due to probably having to go through a holding bank first.
paying money into her uk account is perfectly safe (i have my parents do this all the time) and the money is availible instantly, the only issue is will she be charged for using a uk card to buy a flight out of australia with fees for booking etc
a third option could be that you buy the ticket from your travel agent for her, its likely to be an e-ticket so as long as you email her the confirmation numbers then there shouldnt be a problem and no charges should be incurred on either side (that i can forsee anyways)
the paypal account thing, it could work, but there is a charge for withdrawing money so it will depend how much the charge is to make it a viable option.
what a lovely parent to be doing this for their daughter, really hope you have a good holiday with her when she comes back

Thanks so much for your prompt reply. Glad to hear you have experience of this. Feels safer putting the money in her current account, I must admit.0

i think it helps that you get a receipt so that you know the money is in the account and you dont have to wait about worrying if the money has got there ok.Debt free 3 years early :j

yes that's true. However in the last year my daughter has been the victim of identity fraud 3 times. 1st time for £1000. It took 4 months for her to get the money back. 2nd time for £150. That was 3 months ago. Halifax say she should have her money back in a few weeks. 3rd time was 6 weeks ago for £1100. That is ongoing. Someone in USA has a cloned card of hers and has bought flights and had a shopping trip to Macies with her money. She isn't even in UK never mind USA. So she has informed Halifax that she has cut up her card and does not want a replacement and any transaction on her account that she has not previously warned them about must be taken as fraudulent. She is so sick. To avoid the hassle of her phoning UK Halifax I was looking into other ways of getting the money to her.0

Hi yes our son went over to live in Australia in August for one year and we have put money into his u.k bank account with no bother at all. He was due money for selling his car so when that was sorted we just lodged his cheque into his account and when we wanted him to have money for a Christmas gift we lodged it in too, and he has received it all and we got a receipt when we lodged the money and cheque. I honestly don't have anything to do with Paypal as I have never used it before, but know our son doesn't have one anyway. It is a lovely thing to do this for your daughter, and I wish you all the very best.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Hello, I am Australian (have lived here for 7 years). I regularly use the website tranzfers.com
That is if your daughter has an Australian bank account?
It is quick and easy and fast. They have a better rate than the banks and only charge about £7 - much much cheaper than the banks. Also, as it will go into their bank account directly.
Just an option in case your daughter had an Aussie account.
good luck
