it is an easily sorted problem, but the OP did have an issue with not being told the full truth by the CC supplier.they could have informed him that there would be a bit more later on. No need to be rude to them really.

actually there was no additional interest/charge or anything like that added to the balance after i made the purchase, just a strait forward conversion from Euro to Sterling. they mis-quoted the balance and as a result i was lead to believe i had paid the amount in full when i hadnt. they lied to try and catch me out, they failed, im unhappy that they tried

No, they didn't lie or try to catch you out; they just probably didn't know the precise conversion at the time of your call. Just get over it and have a Happy New Year.

just probably aren't the kind of words banks are very willing to accept if it is the customer who hasn't paid a debt in full, or if they are trying to querey getting shafted which we know happens all too often.

it surprising though. im here for advice, and ppl telling me to get over it, and stop being so sad... get over the post and dont contribute if that's all you got to say.

fortunately i am all over this case and will ask the bank for a full explanation. if you'd be interested in hearing what they say check out the thread in about 2 weeks.

I think you were very naive to rely on someone giving you the most accurate response for a currency conversion, being that they change every 30 seconds. However they didn't lie to try and 'catch you out'. So its pointless trying to paint that picture.

I thought I was a complaining git sometimes, but wouldn't have been upset by this! Sounds like a mistake / misunderstanding - hardly a deliberate lie - why would the CS agent have even wanted to make it up?

Honestly buddy, you need to chill a bit!

The 'problem' is though, that the people who have advised you are 'old hands' with credit cards. It sounds like you are new to credit cards and don't understand the finer points of how they work?

2 weeks might be a little optimistic on your part. If they have to locate and listen to tapes, and interview the CSA, you could be looking at the maximum 8 weeks allowed by their complaints procedure...I'm assuming you've made an official complaint?

At the end of the day though, I think they'll find that you asked "what's my balance?" To which you were told accurately £xxx.xx because that's what the CSA's screen said at that time (ie before the transaction conversion rate was finalised).

And after all that, you'll have wasted your time and, more importantly for other customers with genuine complaints, their time in trying to appease you.

Please do come back and tell us what the outcome is though.
