Improving Volume / Sound on Laptap?

Evening Techies...
I'm sure you gifted people can help...? Please?!

Is there a way to improve the volume of sound on my laptap?
Mixer's set at 100%.
On some sites reasonably loud, others really soft.
Is there anything I can do to improve it?
Thinking for watching short videos as opposed to movies & music, as linked to TV (through Xbox) for these.

If best / quickest / most moneysaving solution is external speakers, can anybody recommend any in particular?

Running Windows Vista ~ Thanks fwor!
Have Realtec HD Audio Manager

Many thanks in advance,
as usual all help appreciated

Have you checked to make sure that both the source and the output level are at maximum?

If you open the Volume Control advanced panel, you should see all of the audio sources, such as CD Adio, Wave, etc. Some or all of those may be set too low. (This assumes you're running Windows, as you don't actually say).

Many thanks for quick reply fwor, sorry, I point and click!

I have opened volume Mixer (not sure if right thing) shows device (speakers) and applications, which are both set to 100%.
On control panel Hardware / Sound from what I can see drivers up to date and everything set as 100%.
Btw, don't know if it makes any difference but when I confiqured speakers played at an ok level.

Ok Vista I don't know, as I moved on to Linux a while back, but in XP if you go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Volume, Device Volume and click the Advanced button you get a load more detailed volume settings, as described.

It's probably the same in Vista, but MS have changed where everything is for no apparently good reason...

External speakers are probably the way to go - I have a very good set from Samsung, but I don't think they are sold in the UK now. You probably won't go far wrong with one of the mid-range Logitech active speakers though.

Thnaks for you help fwor, checked what you suggested and everything as should be (I think).
Everything set to 100%. As it's only selected websites, what are the chances they have low volumes?
As I said it's not a big issue, but irritating on somes sites. think I'll just pick up some cheap speakers.
Volume fine with webcam and headset. I really appreciate your help fwor. You been great and answered very quickly.
    Thanks

I think if I were to purchase external speakers for my laptop they would have to be bluetooth/wireless ones.

    Do such things exist?

Having wires coming out of my laptop would drive me crazy!

yes you can get wireless/bt ones...never tried them myself so can't comment on performance. out of interest, if your lappy's static on a desk (kind of implied by the ability to use external speakers with it, i.e. somewhere to put them :D), why could a cable drive you nuts

I would try a set of ear buds/headphones (a) just to make sure of quality (b) possibly as a perm solution.

Soon as you go wireless on anything, usually means either extra box to hold batteries, or bigger, heavier device to hold batteries. Batteries ALWAYS go flat. You have to remember to charge and replace them. There is a limit to the size of battery and how much the can give out per period of time.

Personally davidmt83 and his speakers, while not portable are the way to go. For portability it is headphone/buds. For faffing around and a hard and unreliable life it is something battery powered.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
