Hi all,
I received one of the Freecom DV-T USB gizmos for watching freeview TV on your laptop. Works a treat.
My question is how to I watch programs I have recorded using the DV-T software as MPG files on a conventional DVD player on the TV. Can I burn them to a DVD and use them as is or do I need to convert them???
Many thanks for your advice.

Im not fully aware with regards to dvd burning but i know that you can put mpegs onto a normal cd-r and it is classed as a Video Cd as i used to do that with films i downloaded from the net.
Dunno if thats the answer you want but its the most i know on the subject.0 -
Thanks for that info. sadly my file is 2 Gb and so beyond the capacity of a Cd-R. I wonder if I can just burn it onto a DVD-r and play???Initial Mortgage February 2005 - £275,010.00 :eek:Current Mortgage November 2011 - £228,3132011 £25,410 OP target - £6,359.00 to go..Regular Savings Account (8% APR) - [STRIKE]£2400[/STRIKE] £27000

they will play fine on a divx compatible dvd player - just copy the files as they are to the dvd0

There are programs designed to detect and fix errors in mpeg2 streams that might cause a DVD player to mess up. Search for PVAStrumento and ProjectX on https://www.doom9.org . I tend to edit adverts out and transcode to XVID and get 9+ hours of TV material on a DVD +R. There are guides on how to author DVDs on the aforementioned site. Don't destroy the original material so you can experiment with what works best.

just out of interest are you using the supplied mini aerial or something else - i've also bought one of these but can't seem to pick anything up with supplied aerial

The garbage in garbage out principle is valid in the reception of digital terrestrial TV signals. The loan of a cheapo set top box can prove an aerial location setup without working hardware and software drivers on a PC/Mac.
@Alex, ProjectX is Java based. You just need a virtual machine and perhaps a java SDK. I concur on the wrap. Some menu effort may be required for navigational purposes.
If you have one good aerial signal then consider an aerial distribution amplifier to spread it around.

In answer to one writer, I also need to use the household aerial points to get the freeview channels.
I don't care too much about the length of time it takes to convert the files to be compatible with my regular DVD player. I use Nero for burning regular DVD files which are backups of my kids films. Wondering which selection to try when making the actual burn...........do you burn the 2 Gb file as a data file or do you do it as an image. Not on solid ground here. :beer:Initial Mortgage February 2005 - £275,010.00 :eek:Current Mortgage November 2011 - £228,3132011 £25,410 OP target - £6,359.00 to go..Regular Savings Account (8% APR) - [STRIKE]£2400[/STRIKE] £27000 -
The received broadcast data requires some error correction (free), taking a minute or two, and trivial encapsulation into a recognised DVD format (not free but with trial options) ?. I don't go down this non encoding route.0
