Some letters not available when typing into MSE

Something very strange is going on. When I use Word or some other programme, I can type all the letters of the alphabet with no problems, so there’s clearly nothing wrong with my keyboard. But when I try to type a reply to a post on a forum here on MSE, some of the letters don’t work. The lower case alphabet comes out like this:
abdefgijklmnopqrsuwxyz - c, h, t & v are missing.
The upper case letters are unaffected if I hold the shift key down:
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
but if I put caps lock on, I get the same missing ones as the lower case letters. In fact, I can get all the lower case letters by putting caps lock on and then holding shift down while typing.
I can also still get all the lower case letters by typing in Word and then using copy/paste (which is how I’ve typed most of this post) but why is this happening?

Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Thanks buglawton. It seems to be back to normal now, but I have no idea how or why.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
