Correct SCART connection between DVD Player and TV ?

Hi again
A couple of days ago I was very kindly pointed in the right direction about HDMI and SCART connections but I now have another question.
My new Toshiba SD280E dvd player should arrive tomorrow and, thinking about how to connect it up, today I looked behind my Sony KDL-26T3000 tv as well as at its user manual.
I see 2 SCART connections on the tv. One of these connections is presently utilised by my Virgin tv box.
What is confusing me is that, looking at the tv user manual, the remaining SCART connection is shown as being designated for a DVD recorder - not a DVD player.
The user manual shows the connection for a DVD player as being the one presently utilised by the Virgin cable tv box.
Irrespective of what it seems to say in the manual, are the 2 SCART connections inter-changeable ?
Or will I have to keep switching the 1 connection between the DVD player and the Virgin box ?
Many thanks in advance for help/guidance on this.

That would be the normally accepted route. In a lot of TVs only one scart is an RGB scart and that is usually the one designated AV1. The second one is usually only composite video (inferior quality). Often AV2 will also allow direct recording from TV to Video which is why it's suggested for a DVD recorder. However a lot of DVD recorders will also be able to record in RGB so this isn't the best option either.Irrespective of what it seems to say in the manual, are the 2 SCART connections inter-changeable ?
Maybe and maybe not. It all depends on the TV. If your TV only has one RGB enabled scart then no they are not inter-changeable as far as quality is concerned. However both will still work as far as connecting is concerned.Or will I have to keep switching the 1 connection between the DVD player and the Virgin box ?
If you want to best quality of picture then both the DVD and your Virgin box should be connected to the RGB enabled scart. If both are RGB you don't have a problem. If only one is RGB then you could daisy chain both units depending on what connections your Virgin box has. In other words keep the Virgin box connected the TV as it is. Then conncet the DVD player to the other scart on your Virgin box. When you wish to play a DVD the Virgin box will be off thus allowing the signal to pass through to the TV.0 -
After reading (and re-reading!!) your very helpful and detailed response I had a look in the user manual of my tv again.
At the very back under detailed specifications, it describes the 2 SCART connections and both say "RGB input"
Looks as though I will probably be able to get good picture quality without the necessity of "daisy-chaining" the Virgin box and dvd player.
If I have any problems I will pass on the dvd player to a relative and get a better HDMI one for myself !!0
