  • Hi have tried what you suggested and we got further than we did before but cannot find the options that you have listed above. On the screen the first option says "Selecting Recovery Option" but we are unable to get at this. The next option is highlighted which is Hard Disk preperation. A message comes up saying the following "Windows XP has its own built in repair features such as the System Restore. and driver roll back capabilities. If you have not tried these features please run them BEFORE continuing with this Sytem Recovery. Clicking on "No" will boot the PC directly into System Restore. Do you want to continue with System Recovery now?"
If you press "Yes" it says all files will be lost, if you say No. it goes to a screen that says "You have cancelled the recovery process. What do you want to do.
    1 Is back
2 is Restart with Windows Restore System or
    3 is continue
If you do 2 it went back to original message and the continue took you back to the stage where Hard Disk preperation is the option
Any sugggestions. I think we need to be on the top option "Selecting Recovery Option". Am I correct and how do I do that?

You could try a system recovery but as it says you will lose all the files you have on there.
If you want to try this but save all your documents first download a Linux operating system http://www.puppylinux.org/ its only 94mb
Then you need to burn it to a disc using imgburn or your preferred burner software http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/
After you have finished burning the disc you should be able to put it in the computer while its turned on then reboot it and it should boot onto the disc.
If it doesn't boot onto the disc you will need to change the boot order settings to the CD drive to boot first in the bois. Tap Delete to get into the bios.
After you have booted onto linux you need to copy all you files onto a usb stick or a external harddrive or anything like that.
    Then try the system recovery.
  • Good advice although sounding a little technical for my little brain now. Trouble is we can't get on it to do anything in the first place so not able to burn disc or anything!!! Think we may have to resort to losing files but would prefer not to.
