Hi our CD drive has not worked since having a new motherboard in our PC, and we only found out after it was out of warranty, shows how often we use it. Anyway someone mentioned that there maybe something that needed resetting but ddn't know what. Any ideas?

You don't say what make of PC, or what OS you have. But assuming Windows XP or later, have a look in Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager. Does it appear as a device under DVD/CD-ROM drives? If so, does it indicate an error?0 -

See I told you I wasn't technical
The PC is a Packard Bell ixtreme X86 - Intel (R) Celeron, the motherboard is showing as a packard bell columbia. The drive is a Toshiba DVD-ROM SDR5112 drive. I can't see the drive in the listings in explorer, and in the hardware it shows with a code 41, can't find device. Yet its all plugged in correctly (so hubby says)

Ah yes, the familiar MS "upper and lower filters" problem in all probability.
Take a look at the following:

It will probably require that you edit the registry, but the MS walk-through is quite good. Shame they can't actually get round to fixing the bug that causes the problem in the first place, though...0
