Tomtom One V3 no gps signal...arghhhhhhhhh

Hi everyone,

sorry if posted in the wrong forum, please feel free to move if incorrect!

Anyway, I have a tomtom one v3 that i bought in July 08 from PCWorld and have been using it occasionally since buying it with no problems. The unit alaways worked well and picked up a sognal pretty much instantly. About a month ago that I went to use the device but it recieved no signal, and still does not recieve a signal whenever it is powered up.

I have tried a reset of factory settings via the unit, loaded on new softwre updates that were avaliablem and also pressed the reset button on the base of the unit. Can anyone suggest anything else?

I was thinking of taking it back to PCWorld but knowing what they are lke i doubt i'd get a replacement/money back esily so would prefer to fix it myself if possible.

Thanks for any help!

Log on to tomtom home and raise a ticket decribing the problem. As it should be under warranty tomtom should help you out. They can take a day or to two reply. Make sure you tell them everything you have already done and persist if they send you a canned reply first off.

Apologies if these seem like stupidly obvious questions but...

    1. You're not trying to use it indoors, are you?

    2. Have you tried leaving it for about 20-30 minutes in position in the car, but not driving anywhere?

One of my TomToms's takes a while to pick up GPS. I just leave it on, however, it is lower on the dash than what it should be.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

we had this problem and found tom tom very good at fixing it. Ours is just 12months old. We had to send it off in the end but they send a packet to put it in and was back within days all sorted.

Tried downloading "quickgpsfix" occasionally from tomtom home? Not sure if its supported on all models, but helps mine get a quicker fix.
  • hi, thanks for all your replies!

yeah im using it outdoors, in the car.. Have even tried just sitting in my back garden with it but still doesnt pickup a signal. I ahve left it outside for a few hours until the battery ran out and it didnt get a signal then.

I reckon it must be a fault as it worked perfectly for the first few months. It got a signal almost straight away.

I am going to try the tomtom website and raise a ticket as suggested.

    Thanks :j
