Dd's room is really cold as it is over the garage - we are going to be insulating it but in the meantime we need to get her the warmest single quilt we can - it also needs to be as cheap as possible !!
Is down better than polyester ?
Thanks

Yes, and go for 13+ tog if poss. An easy fix could be polyeurathene on the windows (a cheap double glazing fix!)?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

go for a winter/summer one. one is 9.5 and the other is 4.5 and the connect together. or just connect 3 sides and sleep inside - cosy - We got ours at Dunelm storesmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
We had a similar problem with my ds's room - above the porch. The previous occupants insulated the floor which has helped, but we found a 13 tog goosedown duvet has made a big difference (bought in the Debenhams sale). A 'featherbed' mattress topper is another help, with flanellette sheets (or brushed cotton as its now called), along with old fashioned flanelette pyjamas: the best ones we've found are from Primark. Those 'wheat bags' you microwave to warm also help on bitter nights, and a decent black-out curtain liner for existing curtains on the window, or interlined curtains if buying new cut down on window heat loss. We've also insulated the loft above the bedroom.

argos - john cotton cosy sleeper budget 13.5 tog single duvet - code no.127/0853 - £6.39.
100% poyester hollowfibre filling, polypropolene cover (papery type), non- allergenic, (also doesn't have that chemical smell some man-made duvets have when new). machine washable on 40, and tumble dry on cool.
If you don't mind man-made and probably not long lasting, this product is superb. can definitely recommend. I bought a larger size a couple of months ago on the strength of reviews on the site - far better quality than expected, thick, light, extremely warm and cosy. it's every bit as cosy as my previous, very much more expensive duvet.
bliss when you live in a freezing house in mid winter. A duvet under the bottom sheet really helps too if the room is particularly cold.0 -

Hi
Why stick to a single duvet, you could go up a size to a double for a single bed, the extra width would keep the edges hanging down the side of the beb stopping the duvet being pulled up and cuddled in, keeping out unnecessary draughts out, and you have plenty of duvet to tuck under the matress to make a nice warm cocoon, we have always gone up in size for duvets in our family. We have recently bought a new Slumberdown goose feather and down 13.5tog duvet from Lidl for only £25, this is a real bargain, checked out prices on the internet and this was priced at around £100, massive saving.
Hope this is helpfull

In the end we got a 13 tog one for £7 in Sainsburys and added that to her initial duvet which was probably onl about 4 so now she has about 17 tog !
Also got a fleecy undersheet and she is now toasty warm.
Next job is to inulate the gaage ceiling to try and stop the room being cold to start with. It's not paranoia if they really are after you.0
