Buying a house in Birmingham

KitKat
Guess like most repliers , I know Birmingham & Sutton very well especially most of the areas already mentioned , given I have lived and worked ( much of the time with estate agents) all my life ( last move was from Bournville to Sutton!)
Suppose you need to give us a clue to budget / size of property needed, as that will allow us to guide you better
property search websites with rightmove will allow you to see what you get for your money.
a lot of good primary schools are over subscribed, so even moving into an area will not guarantee you a place in chosen school, however hopefully you will then be in right area for chsoen seconadary school ( unless they have changed system again / looking at grammer)Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
OK payless
Need a house with 4 bedrooms, all the usual downstairs rooms plus an office and possibly a room which can be used as a games/playroom. Maximum budget is upto about £900,000. The area we live in is more important than the size of the house to us.
Understand what you are saying about schools but if we can just decide on an area we would like to live in, we can then get names down on waiting lists.

With a budget like that you should take a look at the Four-Oaks area of Sutton, some very nice houses there. Unless the £900,000 was a typo and you actually meant £90,000 in which case Sutton is probably out of the picture.0

Am I understanding correctly, and is Sutton just a shortened name for Sutton Coldfield rather than being a different area altogether.0

Thats a fair sized budget !
Sounds like Sutton Coldfield ( inc nicer bits of Streetly & Four Oaks- might even get on the Four Oaks Estate ), Shenstone ,
Poss Lichfield / Tamworth villages
http://www.aboutbritain.com/estate-agents/estate-agents-in-sutton-coldfield-page1.asp
gives a few local agents, although notice Paul carr missing
Sutton Observer is main local property paper ( see if you can get a copy ) http://www.suttonobserver.co.uk/index.jsp... property links on website seems to go to http://www.fish4.co.uk/ls/norsuttonobserver/homes
Harborne & Edgbaston are great also, but if working in Perry Barr , I would have thought Sutton was better ( and more greener )
Whilst I live Sutton way ( no where near the value you talking about) I know the Harborne agents better....
( crossed with above 2 posts --- yes Sutton is same as Sutton Coldfield)Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
I know of a beautifully refurbished Edwardian house with 6 extremely generous bedrooms, plenty of off-road parking and a huge garden in Edgbaston! Comes in at under £600,000!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thanks guys for all your replies you have saved me loads of time. I think I will take your advice and start my search in Sutton.
Doozergirl - just in case Sutton isn't for me could you let me have the estate agent dealing with the property in Edgbaston please.0 -
Definately Sutton Coldfield, however as it is quite a large area with several districts within. To commute to Perry Barr, this would be an ideal solution - and depending on which side of Sutton Coldfield you choose to live, you may only be a stone's throw from work (whether that is a good thing or not?). Try these areas of Sutton Coldfield via RightMove and see what you come up with: Streetly, Four Oaks, Mere Green, New Oscott, Maney, Wylde Green, Boldmere. For schooling, there are endless resources on the internet and the bbc.co.uk website will detail all schools within the area and also publishes the appropraite league tables - whether you think these are useful or not. Email me direct if I can be of any further information0

There's also Handsworth Grammar school for boys, that's close to Perry Barr.Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

Yes, Sutton Coldfield actually a town in its own right ( Royal town infact) as part of Warks, unfortunately was taken under Birmingham control in the 70's, talks always about it breaking off ...
Yes the peak time traffic can be slow in direction of Birmingham City ( perry barr being 1/2 way inbetween), but a few short cuts available
as well as the areas I previously mentioned / and Pete's ( guess we must live local! )
Little Aston , is also a place that will be within your price range -
most of these places will come up as part of Sutton Coldfield - but also worth searching B72 - B76 postcodes and parts of WS14Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
