Freeview recorder

Hi all. Hope this is the right thread to post on. I have been looking for a freeview recorder but dont have a clue what to look for LOL. Max i would like to pay is 130 and thats pushing it to be honest. After searching freeview recorder on the threads on MSE i have read that humax is a good make. I have seen one in my budget. 100 pounds in argos, cheaper than currys & comet BRILLIANT. But i was wondering if anyone could tell me if its worth the money. As in the gb etc.

Thanks ! And sorry if this is the wrong thread.

That looks a bargain at that price, Humax have a very good reputation.

160GB is a fair size HDD these days, you can get bigger.

My Panasonic DMREX77 has a 160GB HDD and its big enough for what I record.

You can always archive recording out to DVD if you want to keep them.

  • You'll not regret it! I've had a 9200 (160GB which I've found more than adequate) for 2 years now and it's excellent as I'm sure the 9150 is. Hope you're lucky enough to grab one, well worth every penny.

The Humax 9150 is very easy to use once you get used to its capabilities when compared to a simple set top box. Fan noise may be an issue to some. I've had the hard disk out and copied stuff onto my PC with HummyReadFiles (SATA connection). This is worth the money if you have a decent Terrestrial Freeview signal.

I must admit that everytime I see someone enquiring about a freeview box I feel like jumping in and telling them to get a pvr. They are just sooooooo much better than a freeview box by itself. They carry out the freeview functions as well as a very good programme guide and of course record your programmes as well while you are watching something else.. and all for as little as £40. http://www.pvrempire.co.uk/index.php?cPath=24&osCsid=g98b16ol1f4lr5mjj5q2vusjo3
and of course the humax it you want to get something even better

They are one of the best things invented over the last 10 years for entertainment. Once you had one you never want to give it away

I remember years ago spend hours looking through radio times for what to record at Xmas, buying loads of Scotch tapes and then loosing some programs as the VHS one had one tuner. Now I can void that, twin tuners, no messy inferior tapes, 8 day EPG with search and genre facility. I record loads because of all the rubbish on Tv I avoid all that and watch previous recordings when I want too. Records live tv so go back if some one is at the door

Hi All. I have been three argos's in total. They are all out of stock and showing up 130 pounds. But didnt realise you can check if they are in stock online. And there is one at another local argos about 3 miles away so i could catch the bus to buy it.

Sorry to be a pain but do i need a HDTV tv? As its a wide screen, but its not HDTV. Thanks !

No you dont need a HDTV just a tv will do, LCD, CRT or Plasma obviously the bigger the tv the more likely it can show any artefacts this is dependant on the reception a lot of the time
